This is the first one that I’ve added to my collection a couple of years ago. I find them interesting as they are essentially the first official form of camo used by the German army during WW1.
Thanks for the comment Ron! I am getting more interested in them. I love the weight of them in you’re hand. Just prefect. Also much cheaper and easier to store and display than helmets which is my main focus. I do really like the appearance of the vaulted crosses too! I only need a gold wound...
Totally agree with you. No way I would ever touch it. Part why I love Imperial Militaria (and WW1) is because of the patina. All of my items stay exactly as I found them and live in a dehumidified collection room.
I’ve been wanting to ad an EK1 to my collection for some time now, and recently picked up this nice privately purchased piece. A vaulted 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class Cased – 800 CD and manufactured by Carl Dillenius of Pforzheim. This example is in nice condition but is showing some wear to the...
Thanks you. It’s tantalising to look at the smalls bits of what looks to be an underlying camo as it must have been very wild before being painted over. Reminds me a bit of the swirling craziness of Edvard Munche’s painting “The Scream” albeit with different colours.

This example is interesting as it has seemingly been camoed twice and would appear to have an earlier camo underneath which can still be seen in some panels with swirling brush strokes outlined below the solid panels. On top of the previous camo is one in the style of the July 1918 directive by...
I think you may be thinking of the guy working out of Latvia. His are quite good but not good enough. Thougg in 50-60 years his helmets with have a lot of patina.
There was a very good WW2 helmet painted known as Rex and he would sign his helmets so as to make them recognisable. What saddens me...
I’d like to see a closeup or some examples of his helmets. There are some very good fakes out there, but in my experience a fake camo or altered WW1 steel helmet will not stand up to scrutiny in comparison to an untouched original. 100+ year old patina is almost impossible to reproduce. Having...
The camo/Guard helmet posted Laurent is unfortunately all bad. Paint is a post war fabrication while the pads appear to be fakes held with what appear to be round bottom fake liner pins. The rear pin should the raised type used to hold the stirnpanzer strap from slipping down the back of the...
