I recently purchased a complete (besides the wappen) M1895 that at somepoint someone had painted all the brass hardware grey. What would be the best way to remove paint from the brass without damaging the brass hardware.

First I had to replace what was retaining the wappen which was a pair of twist ties so I removed the twist ties and replaced them with a pair of leather wedges. Then I had to clean the inside and outside of the helmet. The outside was covered in a sticky oily mess when I got it and the inside...
This one came to me in quite rough condition but all parts were included and the price was most certainly right. This was the project that really made me enjoy repairing these helmets. Let me know what yall think of the repair.:)
Yeah I see what you mean on the wappen. The cockades from the seller Pics under them there is some rusting( not sure if that helps). Do you think I should seek a wappen that's of similar color for it? Or leave it be
I picked up this ersatz M15 for $340. The chinstrap is def a repro however. I love the look of these things and I'm excited to have finnaly placed one into my collection.
