    Yes indeed, called "Helm mit Ohrenausschnitten" or “ear cutout helmet”. It was probably done to allow better hearing, and not specifically intended for cavalry units.

    I will keep that in mind for the future... lots of work for the moment though with 4 next volumes GDR, and 4 volumes US 1910 to 1921.
