Hello everyone,
may I ask how much this cuirassier helmet might cost?

The helmet was found on a rooftop with a cuirass. The cuirass is from the 3rd Squadron of the Guards Regiment. I am currently restoring the cuirass.

Thank you

I have so many questions... This is a rooftop find? I have heard of attic finds, barn finds, basement finds... never have I heard of a rooftop find. Having said that, they definitely look like they were left out on a rooftop for a while.
Any idea why they were on a rooftop?
Where was this rooftop located (besides on top of a house)?
Any idea who put them out on a rooftop?
Are you restoring these items for your personal collection, or will they be for sale at some point?

After all that, I must say... very cool find!!

Tim

I'm using Google Translate; I mean, it's an attic find.

I'm restoring and preserving the cuirass.I'd like to have someone else restore the helmet because I already have a cuirassier helmet. That's why I'm asking what this helmet might cost in its current condition; it has a really thick patina.

With a load of elbow grease these can come back to life. If they are a set it would be sad to split them up. Rob

If it would come for sale, I'd be a buyer. Would take a while to find all of the parts needed, but I have the time.
Regards, Coert.

To revive tombac, nickel silver, and brass, avoid sanding and abrading. The metal sheet is very thin, and sanding it weakens it. The best is to soak the helmet in a bucket filled with rainwater, (not limestone) with addition of one liter of hydrochloric acid. We let it soak for 24 hours because it’s quite diluted. Rinse with soapy water to stop the action of the acid, dry carefully, then pass a steel wool 0000. The verdigris has disappeared and the copper color has reappeared. Afterwards, you can pass a white clay crême (in France = Pierre d'Argent). Applied with a soft cloth.
It remains to restore the leather headdress, and to add the star of the cuirassiers of the Guard, the good jugular and the good roundels. 1GzF IB 3000€2014.jpg1GzFIB 197Soissons15.jpg

Okay, was it a problem somehow with the former buyer? Anyway, I am on it again..
I thought a bidding war was all that was happening with the first listing on Ebay.
