    Pickelhauben collection resolution

For European transactions I've found that some collectors/dealers are moving to Wise. I've used it and it's more cost competitive than Paypal although not as well known.

    Hessian 168 Infantry Regt Leutnant

Nice boards but I have to say the star of the show is the sword and the portepee. It's a beauty and a rarity.

Does this pickelhaube check out ok.

It looks perfectly legitimate to me. A bit more than I would pay for it but that's a personal decision.

Prussian Jaeger zu Pferde "Lobstertail" EM Model 1900

Great looking helmet. I've never encountered a Wappen serially numbered to match the helmet. Someone in the QM was a bit OCD. :)

Ebay helmet refurbished to model 15 real!

The helmet is a good one in terms of having all period parts, although the condition of those parts is not very good. It may have been re-worked and re-issued but 960 Euro for a so-so condition M15 Infantry is delusional in my view.

NEW TO THE COLLECTION--- 9th BATTALION or VOLTIGEURS DE QUEBEC

David: If I may? Did you find this in Quebec/Ontario? I think I've seen this piece before in the collection of a good friend of mine, who passed in 2008. It's an excellent example. My friend was the person who told me, "Never buy anything that you'll have to make excuses for." This piece...

Someone got burned for $1K + commission on a made in UK repro Hessen Helmet

For some of these auction houses, the temptation of raking in about $5K USD in hammer fees doesn't encourage them to look too hard when assessing originality. A short-sighted business practice, certainly, but most of us who've been around a while know more than a few dealers who went down the...

    ???

I'm with Amy on this one. I would assume it's a fake unless it came from a well known and knowledgeable collector.

    The Kaiser’s Prize (Kaiserschiessabzeichen)

Steve: That makes quite a complimentary pairing!

    The Kaiser’s Prize (Kaiserschiessabzeichen)

Steve: That is quite a collecting coup! This is about as good as it gets in terms of Kaiserprize collecting. The only thing that could top this is one of the busts awarded to the regiment for display in the mess. (He said suggestively)

    regiment steins

Steve: I do have about a dozen of them, but I'm not collecting them actively anymore. They are sitting in a display cabinet in the corner of our living room and in the past 10 years not a single guest has ever commented on them, which I find amazing because as we know, they are quite colourful...

Anyone else have to do yard work?

I have yard work plus lake work. I spent the last few days getting my boat lift, docks and marine railway back into the lake for another season. In the Fall I reverse the process. But.... I pick up the boat from storage today and lake trout fishing season opens on Saturday. Yipee!

    Kaiserliche Marine Kokarden

I have these two. I'm not entirely convinced on the 2nd one.

    Washers?

Who isn't looking for these washers? If some lucky soul found a box of them in a warehouse they'd be sold out inside of a week.

    Kaisersammler Sammlung

This collection is beyond belief. Absolutely stunning.

    Baden Landwehr Wappen

Brian: I have an identical Wappen im my parts drawer. Unfortunately, some knot head cut the screw posts off so they only stand proud of the Wappen by about 1/8 of an inch. Does anybody know the specs for the original threads? It might be worth sourcing some brass bar stock and having it...

    Help required

If it is indeed Bavarian in origin then I suspect that the mounting loops on the Prussian Wappen have been removed and re-soldered to fit the narrower mounting holes in the Bavarian shell.

    Paradebusch

Mike: I don't have a list as such. I use a database containing a record for every unit in the Imperial Army as of August 1914 that I can run queries on to answer questions such as "create a list of all the units that were entitled to wear parade bushes" then I filter that list by "create a...

    Paradebusch

I think there were 15 units that were entitled to a white parade bush combined with silver helmet fittings. Hard to say which one of them it's associated with.
