I had a look through my collection of "Unusual and Interesting Prizes" gathered from around the net and came across this anomaly. This one which also claims to have won a prize combination which does not exist, does have the required cut outs in the crown. Just a better quality fake??

A not surprising answer and one that I think makes sense. In service an award winner was only allowed to wear the award on his uniform for one year. So, for instance a Reservist who won the award in 1908 would not be allowed to wear it in any other year. Allowing some one to wear an award...

That's a possibility. Perhaps for wear with a Veterans Association uniform?

Yes I gave it a pass. If there is no date on the piece there's little point in acquiring it.

I've seen several Jager Kaiser Prizes without dates. Just last week there was one on offer in a US auction. Looked like a completely legit piece but without a date. I don't understand why they exist.

Not a difficult decision for me. The Bavarian in a heartbeat.

I have my collection, all my data on Kaiser prizes and the Imperial Army by unit along with head dress configuration by unit in MS Access databases. Works great for filtering and running queries. It can deal with photos but can become quite a memory hog.

This has been a very informative post on what I consider a very interesting area of Imperial collecting. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
