Good to hear that you had a good time Steve. The A of K guys told me at the Show that they were going to visit you.

Me again, with another eBay find, currently very cheap, is this Haube authentic?

One other detail...the liner with square tongues is the older (1842-1880) style private purchase used before the ribbed silk was introduced in 1880.

Aside from A of K and Weitze, there were not a lot of hauben at the show. $2,500US for a wartime Garde Officer with zinc fittings?? Of course, there was a reason why the prices on these wappen were so reasonable....most were missing their loops and screw posts! More to come...

    Red Band Uberzugs

The German peacetime design of the manoeuvre helmet covers with reversible red stripe/beige was a fortunate "accident" for the Kaiser's Army when the war began. I have seen these "reversibles" for sale at many shows but they were always "officer private purchase" as are yours from what I can...

Hessian M15 with cruciform base and fluted spike

There are two schools of thought regarding this issue. Some collectors buy the best and complete helmets so they don’t have to bother with problems. Others like myself enjoy the challenge of repair and looking for the missing pieces. There is no right or wrong approach

Hessian M15 with cruciform base and fluted spike

There is a large amount of satisfaction for a collector, when you buy a helmet which is missing some pieces and over time you manage to find these and complete it. This is especially true when dealing with a rare helmet such as this Hessen M15. Congratulations Gabe.

A tight fit to the visor should be the priority in my opinion, plus matching holes for the visor brads.

    strange interior

The stag antlers are weird and I suspect have been made up and soldered on. Their colour seems different than the rest of the wappen. We see missing antlers on many Wurttemberg wappen as they are delicate and easily snagged. I have not seen that style of cloth liner before.
