The chin scales appear to be flat when all mounted troops wore convex (curved) scales. Flat scales were worn by infantry units.

    Saxe M67 Restitch

Another sunny day here in the low 70's F- 22C. I finished this old beauty and will deliver it to member Pionierhorn at the SOS. As mentioned, black shoe polish was applied to the stitch line to make things less obvious.

SOLD: Prussian M15 Artillery enlisted pattern Pickelhaube, "F.A.R. 44, 1916" Kammerstempel

A very nice example in excellent condition! No surprise that it sold quickly, well done Alan. 👍

    Saxe M67 Restitch

I finished the first pass across the stitch line today. This is the most difficult stage of the restitch as you must insure that the visor holes are lined up with the shell and you are sticking your hand into a cluster of T pins as you stitch. The added difficulty here as mentioned, is the...

A question about this guards Stahlhelm

Unfortunately, those links do not work.

Does anyone have a clearer picture of this stamp and there is a JR 69 above the date, what doing that mean?

This helmet is an example of an original model 1895 helmet with all brass fittings which has been converted during the war to the model 1915 version where all fittings are grey painted steel. This is perfectly legitimate and many M15's sold today show evidence of this conversion. An M15 actually...

    then just one more

Regarding the "Splinten" comment.....the neusilber fittings are nickel plated over brass. After 100+ years of polishing and use these often show the brass underneath. In fact, brass is showing through the cruciform spike base on the Oldenburg Dragoner DR19 helmet which is my avatar! This helmet...

    Baden GR.109

That is an amazing helmet Clovis! It shows how much the Germans struggled to equip their expanding army after the first attacks of 1914. 👍

    Baden GR.109

Great information Clovis and another reminder to all collectors that just as with the Allies, the Germans faced equipment and clothing shortages when their armies were expanded with huge number of new recruits.

    Baden GR.109

Great helmet! I love issued helmets with correct markings! We all have our preferences but I would be looking for trim, it can be done with help from fellow collectors. I have been lucky in this respect. 👍. Obviously it is up to you,

    Saxe M67 Restitch

Front visor pinned and ready for stitching: Again, the condition of the stitch line makes it difficult to count the holes which has to be done if things are going to be lined up in the correct position.

    Felt Ersatz Shako

I have a Prussian filz helme with the same oil cloth liner. It also has a strip of cloth glued around the inside rim underneath the liner. As to the wappen, I do have a Shako eagle with a large loop soldered to it similar to this. I will post a photo when I get home. We did discuss this variant...

    German helmet / butcher bayonets

Those are very interesting bayonets, thanks for posting. I also have the Jeff Knoll book and recommend it but unfortunately, I don’t have it with me. P on those first stamping would indicate Pioneer to me which would fit with the saw back.
