M1886 Bavarian Infantry OR helmet complete Very nicely marked to 3 IR 1895

That is quite true but the ridiculous auction fees almost make it not worth going to sites like that. I can't understand payd 25-40% extra for items that are already quite expensive

M1886 Bavarian Infantry OR helmet complete Very nicely marked to 3 IR 1895

I think people just have less fun money these days. That being said if this were marked to the 5th FAR I'd have looking into a payment plan haha

Is there any explanation of the cyphers being awarded late in the war or who's they are?

I have been donated some visor trim for this piece but I have a dilemma of either matching patina or matching shape of the visor better?

    Bavarian Sword knot question

That does seem to be a bit excessive 😅 but I can't seem to find another one available so maybe that's the going rate.

    Thanks

If I'm not mistaken the curved chinscales and squared visor would make this an NCO of foot artillery.

Will be adding a white and blue NCOs sword knot to the list of wants

    Bavarian Sword knot question

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what sword knot i should hunt down for an NCO of the 5th Bavarian artillery, I'm unsure of what battery but I've also seen some sources saying that NCOs didn't use battery specific knots. I can't seem to find alot of definitive guides...

    Baden GR.109

Outstanding analysis and great helmets! If only my markings were a little easier to read.

    Baden GR.109

I would definitely be open to adding the correct visor trim, I just know how hard the silver fittings are to find so I wasn't going to get my hopes up haha

    Unknown Picklehaube quiz

It looks like someone took a reichs cockade for a feldmutze and a #4 from a shoulder board and slapped them onto the back half of a saxon wappen or something like that.

I have just checked and non of the components are magnetic.

    Baden GR.109

Unfortunately yes, but the price on this one was acceptable for me and I don't think I'll be finding any silver fittings with this exact patina on it, I'm still a huge fan of this one either way.

    Baden GR.109

My best guess would be that the helmet stayed in service long enough for a transition to the looped wappen, maybe his old one got damaged and needed to be replaced? It's hard to say but the wappen has definitely been on this helmet for decades.
