    Opinions on "39" Shoulder Straps

Steve, My collection is based on the items visible in the photoalbum of my German grandmother, which contains pictures and post cards of her three older brothers who were all in the German army, as well as post cards and death cards from friends / acquaintances. Even though the main objective...

    Opinions on "39" Shoulder Straps

I've bought these shoulder straps, and would like your opinion regarding originality. My concerns are mainly about the seam stitching, larger stitches than what I have normally seen, and it is the same on both shoulder straps (thread colour and stitching distance) even though the fabric seems...

Prussian (Hessen?) M1908 converted to M1916

Hi Peter, I agree with Coert, and I also see the little “f” here on your helmet. Regards, Lars

    Paris-Dakar Rally

Hi Wojtek, Please “bore” me with your work, I always find it very interesting to see how you bring these old items back to life :) Regards, Lars

    Someone's getting ripped off

Hi, Yes, but the seller states clearly: "Alter unbekannt. Ich bin kein Experte. Privat-Verkauf.", translates as "age unknown, I'm no expert, private sale" (private sale means that under German law the seller is not obliged to take the item back). Reading the descriptions is critical. Regards, Lars

3rd Jager Regiment uniform with felt ersatz shako

Hi Nev, The way the Feldzeichen has been stiched, and the stitching, colours, piping and stamps of the jacket. The cord of the Erkennungsmarke looks incorrect also. Regards, Lars

3rd Jager Regiment uniform with felt ersatz shako

Hi Nevb, Are these items presented here as originals? I hope I'm wrong, but the grouping raises a lot of questions with me. Regards, Lars

Pickelhaube M15 ORs - loose fitting of spike

Hi Rhys, I think you did very well in the auction :) My assessment was based on the unfinished look of the sliders (especially the sides on the 1st picture) and the unfinished look of the eyelets (sharp metal edges on 2nd & 3rd pictures). I had a look at my own M15 chinstraps and they looked a...

Pickelhaube M15 ORs - loose fitting of spike

Hi Rhys, Nice helmet! Imo the chinstrap is a replica, but the rest is original. If the spike has the same colour as the disc they most likely belong together, otherwise the spike comes from a different helmet. As these helmets were used without the spike in the field, and the spikes left behind...

    Help: Tschapka authenticity question

Hi James, I'm not an expert on Tschapkas, but for me the following things stand out: The liner looks ill-fitting and very uncomfortable, with folds in the leather that would lead to pressure points, and in addition it looks like it is dirty all over, imo it is an artificially-aged reproduction...

    Colberg Officer 1807

Hi, According to the Bekleidungsordnung from 1903, both 1. reit. Batterie FAR Nr 2 and 6. Batterie FAR Nr 3 wore this Wappen. Regards, Lars

    Bayonet frog

Hi, Nice frog, 1916 date fits with the iron rivets, these narrow frogs are much rarer than the wider 98/05 frogs. Reit. R. 1. I read as Reiter Regiment Nr. 1., a Reichswehr unit (i.e. just after WW 1). Regards, Lars

What Unit and Rank of this Überzug Fellow?

Hi, XII. 1. means saxon 1. Landsturm-Infanterie-Bataillon Dresden, and I think the 45 has something to do with the 1. sächs. Infanterie-Brigade Nr. 45, also based in Dresden. Early in the war the Landsturm troops wore their Infanterie-Brigade number on the collar, maybe it was moved to the...

    Artillerie chinstrap

Hi, I have never seen such a "bubbly" surface on the Zugschnallen (sliders), and the leather seems to have the "flesh" side out rather than the "skin" side (clearly visible on Clovis' pictures how it should look like). I can't see the Metallösen (side post connector) good enough to form an...

    Shako with markings

Nice Tschako Amy, I see "I. Tel. Batl." Are those the remains of some brown bug on the Feldzeichen? Regards, Lars

    55JR IIIB 1896 Schaumburg 1914 Detmodt

Congratulations on a beautiful helmet Clovis! Before the introduction of the Reichskokarde, all other ranks serving with Prussian regiments were allowed to wear their own Landeskokarde (if different from Prussia) on the left in addition to the Prussian Kokarde on the right. For III. battalion...

    M15 Jäger-Bataillon Nr. 7

Congratulations Hans, What a nice Tschako, good condition with super markings! I think the practice of painting the Feldzeichen dates from already before the war, typically when they are on exercise, these Feldzeichen damage easily :). I have an album from 1912 where more pointy Feldzeichen...
