    Latest find after the S O S 2021 Hessian I R 117 ersatz

I never meant to suggest that it was original to the helmet. I would imagine that Kokarden got mixed up even in the trenches. I am only suggesting that the Kokarde may be an original piece and correct for the time period. It seems we have uncovered a mystery on what Cockades were, and were not...

That is part of the reason I brought up the question in the first place. The helmet you bought is absolutely pristine so why would anyone suspect that the Kokarde was incorrect? As you mentioned Bremen had only one regiment, IR75 (and the third battalion was manned by Prussia), so those Kokarden...

"Ribbon". That I agree with. Smooth edge and ribbon like appearance. All of the Hessen Kokarden that I have seen resemble the "ribbon" type without serration. John

None of the Hessen Kokarden shown here are serrated: https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/hessen-kokarden.15381/ And none of the Bremen Kokarden shown here are non-serrated: https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/bremen-kokarden.15389/ I agree with you, but I don't agree with Larcade in...

    Latest find after the S O S 2021 Hessian I R 117 ersatz

I agree with you Coert. It seems; however, that every time I think I know the answer something new comes along. I recently found this Kokarde listed as Hessen: It is unusual and could be Bremen or Hessen or fake. I don't know. If it is Hessen it could be the same kind Steve has. The small...

    Latest find after the S O S 2021 Hessian I R 117 ersatz

I don't know if this Kokarde is incorrect or not. As Tony's chart points out Hesse used a single red ring on Kokarden for hats and caps. Maybe they did use this type of Kokarde later, after 1915? I have never seen a Hessen Kokarde like this one, but I have also never seen a Bremen Kokarde that...

    Latest find after the S O S 2021 Hessian I R 117 ersatz

When did Hesse begin using this type of Kokarde? A single red ring serrated Kokarde is used by Bremen. I thought that Hesse used a white serrated, or non-serrated, Kokarde with a double red ring. I have never seen this non-serrated, single ring, Kokarde before. I obviously need some further...

    The Prussian Kokarde

Here's another early Prussian leather Kokarde with a metal ring: The leather is very thin on this one: This is on a Model 1860 Train Officer's helmet. John

1908 DATED PRUSSIAN RESERVE INFANTRY PICKELHAUBE

A wonderful piece of history! Some helmets can benefit by a light coat of polish and a gentle cleaning. This is not one of those helmets. It is best to leave this helmet alone. It tells an amazing story. John
