What is the seam between the front half and the back half of this Tschapka? It looks like two helmets have been sewn together. I do not own a Tschapka and I am not very familiar with them at all, but I have not seen this seam before. Really curious. John

The chinscales are held together with a bolt instead of the normal fastener at the front. This is not all that uncommon. The rosettes are not proper for this M1871 helmet as Brian mentioned. It should have screw posts instead of rosettes. This would be an easy change and you can find original...

That is a good question. I, frankly, never paid attention. I looked at my helmets and I am at about 70% with the hole directly in front, and 30% with the hole slightly offset. None of the split pins on these helmets look like they have been messed with --- at least not for many, many years. John

I tend to agree. It looked like a possible restoration project, but it is overpriced for that. I don't really consider replacing fake parts with original parts a "restoration". To me that is more of a "correction". The helmet is not modified, only brought back to original. I think we have all...
