Do you have any recommendations for books on swords and buttons? I’m currently only collecting Napoleonic buttons, but I am looking to move into swords soon. I think I’ll start with the common sabre briquet, but I hope to acquire some higher-end specimens like a dragoon sword later on.

Very cool! So it is partially original to the Napoleonic period! That is about as close you can get to owning an original without breaking into the French Army Museum’s display cases 😂

It is true that original shakos from the period are almost impossible to come by, which is why I’m hesitant to refer to it as a true Napoleonic shako just yet. After all there are shakos made for Napoleon’s funeral procession and centennial reproductions are all floating around on the market...

    Grenadier regiment 9 after 1913

Haha, I guess that would be an issue for a collection as large as yours! Maybe you can wear the helmet as a fashion statement. That should solve the problem of thinning hair!

    Spanish M42

Awesome! I’m glad you were able to remove the misleading paint job and decal. New collectors always mistake these for genuine WWII German stahlhelms, so if this one ever goes back into circulation, there’ll be little chance that it’ll be mistakenly identified!

GdC - who beat me to this one

Although I love the look of a shiny Garde Du Corps helmet, I’d leave this one alone. It has a nice and even patina that looks great!
