Jürgen Krause is working on a new series called "Handbuch der Verbände und Truppen des deutschen Heeres 1914 - 1918" and which should comprise 20 books when done. Evidently only a few books are yet completed. Has anyone read into them?
Personally I'm waiting for #7 which will cover the MG-units :)
Is the town known? This part would have more historical meaning to the locals than actual collectors value. I could imagine that the crown was removed after 1918 as on the police helmets. You could add a crown of lacquered wood or pottery
Wasn't it foresighted of them to make the crowns...
While browsing I stumbled across these nice pictures. There was an article by the Gesellschaft für Heereskunde describing this helmet type.
I know the drawings but I never saw this helmet it in real...
Some of the writing is too faint and small, but were the biplane it flying he wrote "Dear greetings to your parents and brothers/sisters (this is onw word in German)", some other parts appear to be names.
Nice cards! This picture was drawn with ink and pencil by Max Weise (Gren. Reg. 100) on the back of his Feldpostkarte, also dated 1915.
The writing on the lower part of the first card says "Sincere greetings from the front from your coachman".
The second: "Greetings from Minden sends to you...
Great pictures! I don't have that source, does it tell what color are the fittings (silver/gilt)? The spike looks yellow on the color card. Were the neck flaps made to detach? Despite the close-up picture I am not sure weather the neck flaps are attached to the band (and just looped over the...
The statue has been replaced by a smaller monument. The wall in the rear is evidently still original. Regrettably the name plates are lost, leaving only the graves of a few officers with names.

I'm not going to pay €58.- for a modern reprint (lol) but does anybody know/have any more picture of these? Made for the guards during the orient travel of the royal couple in 1898. Did any survive (helmets, that is)?
I like how the cape is made to fit over the helmet 8)

Nice site; reading through your article makes me wonder - are there references of steel helmets being used in Mecedonia? It seems they should be ubiquitous after 1916 but actually I cannot remember any pictures at all.
I think they attacked the harbors over which war goods where brought in to France.
I´ll admit to eating children and collaborating with garden gnomes, though :D
Nice classic helmet. We discussed this model once and some very interesting pictures surfaced..

Yes it is definitely a Nürnberg police OR helmet, probably Gemeindepolizei, made before 1918. Dating is only possible due to the cockade because this helmet type was worn from 1886 into the 1930s. Before 1918, towns with more than 5000 residents could select their own coat of arms if they...
