When we visited Vornholz, the guide said they wanted to rehouse the collection in one of the former stables. Fact, or hearsay shared with him, I don't know, but the collection was impressive and beautiful. :D Ron

Take a look at the spike shape and memorize the authentic forms. The Merryweather fireman's helmet also looks to be a fake and I would guess the French one next to the Indiahaube is also a phony. Study originals before making a bad purchase. there are a LOT of good reference photos on this site.

A very nice example! Mine also had a nut on it. I don't remember if it was square or hexagonal... maybe a replacement if the wing nut was too high?

I don't think Goodwill has time to do such things. This time, it went for $600 or so. The first time, $300. Just like any on-line bidding, you get some interesting bidders.

Between here on Pickelhaubes and Age of Kings, there have been a LOT of nice helmets for sale lately, so those who have been buying may be taking a breather. Perhaps people also worry about being able to even GET their items if they live in the US. I'm STILL waiting for a parcel that can't be...

Replicas are great.... for Oktoberfest, but don't expect them to have any real value. As somebody said, it's a costume, not militaria. Prost! Ron
