    Hessen Train Bn. Officer.

Thank you all for your kind words, photos and input. Since both Hessen Infantry and Train officers had convex chinscales, is there a way to tell them apart that I'm not aware of? Cheers! Ron

    Hessen Train Bn. Officer.

I really don't know if it's silk or satin. Is there a way to tell? Here's a close-up. To me, it looks satiny. But then, it's old... like me...

    Hessen Train Bn. Officer.

I'm sure everybody who shops Age of Kings has seen this helmet, which nobody wanted. I think what put people off was the honesty of Randy and Remi. They listed that the plate was 'altered' at some point, having two centrally located attachment holes and two outer ones without studs. That put me...

When we visited Vornholz, the guide said they wanted to rehouse the collection in one of the former stables. Fact, or hearsay shared with him, I don't know, but the collection was impressive and beautiful. :D Ron

Nice helmet! I really do like AOK. Just paid for for one today, so waiting to get it. I'll post photos when it arrives. Ron

    Can this be original?

Take a look at the spike shape and memorize the authentic forms. The Merryweather fireman's helmet also looks to be a fake and I would guess the French one next to the Indiahaube is also a phony. Study originals before making a bad purchase. there are a LOT of good reference photos on this site.

I deleted the message, but did it stay? I misread what you'd written for prices, thinking (something like) US: $2,000 (or whatever you're asking), Europe 1----- 700 Euros (I took the space to be something like 1: 700 Euros, or Canadian 2: 800. I figured the prices out and deleted it. Sorry...

    Gone.

I would love to, but can't. What a super example. I had a friend, Willy Schusser, whose father was an NCO instructor, but I couldn't talk him out of the helmet. ;) Ron

Nice helmet! A type of fiber shell?

    Garde Kurassier

A very nice example! Mine also had a nut on it. I don't remember if it was square or hexagonal... maybe a replacement if the wing nut was too high?

    Age of Kings

You do a wonderful job! If I had the cash, I'd be waiting, hand on the button, waiting and after a lot of those nice helmets, but alas.... retirement. ;) Ron

    Goodwill's $1600.99 M15 What???

I don't think Goodwill has time to do such things. This time, it went for $600 or so. The first time, $300. Just like any on-line bidding, you get some interesting bidders.

    SOLD PB 10 Officer's Haube

Between here on Pickelhaubes and Age of Kings, there have been a LOT of nice helmets for sale lately, so those who have been buying may be taking a breather. Perhaps people also worry about being able to even GET their items if they live in the US. I'm STILL waiting for a parcel that can't be...

Where can I get a pickelhaube for under 300 dollars?

Replicas are great.... for Oktoberfest, but don't expect them to have any real value. As somebody said, it's a costume, not militaria. Prost! Ron
