Just a small tweak on this. The spike base was dented and bent, so after getting the proper tools, I did a little work and got it lined up better. Without the studs, it looked pretty good, but once three were on it, the bend was obvious on the front, with about a 1cm gap, or 'lift' to that...

I may be mistaken, but didn't this regiment have a line eagle with a bandeau and FWR on the breast until 1900? If it was purchased by the individual before 1900, and they switched to the Garde eagle, then wouldn't they relocate the holes or resolder the posts?
