Chin scales, Schuppenkette. Prefer convex, gilt.

Thanks for the reminder. I don't have any original rosettes with this helmet, so I can go either way, but prefer convex, which I'll search for first. No rush.

Chin scales, Schuppenkette. Prefer convex, gilt.

Hi All, Looking for a set of scales for my Bavarian helmet, officer type (not for side-posts). I'd prefer convex for a Field Artillery officer (no markings in the helmet) If you have the rosettes as well, I need those too. Asking here, looking on eBay, etc. If you know of some originals for...

    Ersatz Kurassiere

I bought the Bavarian Reserve Officer 'parts' helmet. I finished re-attaching the visor, now I have to make a good measurement and try to find a set of chin scales. The nice (?) thing is, I don't know what unit this officer was from so I could go flat scales (ex: infantry) or convex (ex: Feild...

Kenny, GOOD EYE! I think you mean the thread going over the very tip of the neck guard. On the left side, it does that, but on the right, it goes slightly under. I thought it was odd too, but didn't drill a new hole or anything. Also, I was impressed with how the holes lined up as I sewed, very...

    Ersatz Kurassiere

Nice helmet! I Didn't see it and don't have one to share, so Thanks All! I like that A o K leaves the purchase prices up so we can at least see what we missed and for how much. Always good to know.

    Bavarian Reserve Officer

Visor is stitched, now on to the spike base, which has some small kinks to remove. There's a name inside that looks like 'Gustav' somebody? I'll try to figure it out, maybe find out who he was and what kind of unit (so I can get the proper chin scales).

    Bavarian Reserve Officer

After getting rid of old threads, I finished tapping the holes on the helmet itself. As suggested, got the 'tools of the trade' and had no problem attaching one side of the visor today. Other side tomorrow.

    Hello Everyone

Welcome Hayden! I was glad to read that you are 'researching' the subject. Too many don't do that and get stuck with a fake Pickelhaube. If you have questions, this is the place to be.

Looks to be a liner to Pickelhaube bead roller.

Some of mine. All are as purchased, so some replacement (repro) straps and cockades:

Similar, yes. My branch of the family is descended from minor nobility. However, the area they were in was known for Poniatowski member who were indeed knights. I just found that out last week and thought it odd that I make armor. :)

I missed this thread four years ago! I use a 'bead roller' quite often making 'medieval' armor. It's very handy and can be used to start all kinds of ribbing and such on various parts of armor. Here's a back plate, the 'arm openings' for which I used the roller.

Step 1 is completed on the neck guard. A little time drilling out the old threads was trouble free. Some thread material refused to be removed from the area between the holes, and I'm not going to mess with it.
