I'd never have thought of a sewing machine needle! Do you make a loop on the 'under' side and thread another 'string' through it, as on a sewing machine? I've done the double needle method and was thinking of that... but have to buy good needles.

Coming over from the 'Latest Find' thread, the biggest challenge here will be sewing on the neck guard. Thankfully, I have very fine drill bits to clean the holes that are around 2mm apart. It will just take time and patience. I have yet to purchase fine needles and cotton thread for the sewing...

Since retiring, my funds are rather limited, but my free time is greatly expanded! This from Age of Kings, listed as a 'Bavarian Reserve Parts Officer's Helmet', it arrived today, ready to have the neck guard sewn on and other items added. Looking forward to fixing this one up. Here's the page...

Asked the question about chin scales a bit soon. Did a little searching, found most of it on my own. My only remaining question. Could an NCO or even a soldier below that grade from a unit that designates a leather chinstrap, purchase a nice helmet with scales for in garrison or parade? I know...

Remember folks, during wartime, some fireman's helmets were converted into military types. Seeing all of the fireman fitting holes filled makes me think this MAY have been one. I do NOT like the larger holes for the plate, which suggests it was replaced to make it 'more cool', but it makes me...

If they're selling it as a German Pickelhaube, it's a terrible fake. If they're selling it as a costume piece from some obscure college production, then it's pretty cool. It would be great fun for Mardi Gras. You can hang beads from the wings!

Here's a 'War Bond' helmet I picked up years ago... just thought I'd share.

One thing that caught my eye is the spike base, which appears to be of better quality than the EM 'rolled edge' type. So looking forward to seeing what more people have to say.
