Help to identify. Ceremonial helment? Used for honor guard other ceremony

Mike: I suspect this could be American. Possibly also Canadian. Canadian helmets will have the maker's mark stamped on the interior rim. One of the following: CL/C --- Canadian MotorLamp Company -- Windsor,Ontario,- 1940 – 1943 AG/C --- Aluminium Goods Ltd -- Toronto, Ontario- 1942 GSW ---...

    Uhlans Leggings?

Alan: Not the best quality photos I admit. It was near the end of the show and I was more interested in packing up. I recall that the maker was a Germanic name, but in spite of him showing me his receipt from some US web site, I find it hard to believe that anyone selling on the web through a...

    Uhlans Leggings?

I had a sales table at the most recent Ottawa Military Heritage Show on April 26th. Towards the end of the show a fellow came up to me and asked me if I knew much about German Uhlan Leggings. Frankly, I know next to nothing about the Uhlans. So, I told him I knew some people who would know and...

    WW1 Officers Pickelhaube Cover

It sold through the Guild. Back in 2014-15. I bought it from a dealer from Quebec City (Andre Genest) at one of the Lower Canada Arms Collectors Shows at the armoury of the Royal Montreal Regiment probably 35 years ago. Those were great days in retrospect.

    WW1 Officers Pickelhaube Cover

Doug: I have the same feeling. Should never have sold this 109th OR's Uberzug. Especially now that I have a 109th helmet.

Teaching again at my old Highschool

Dane: Nice to see you employing your collection as a teaching tool. It certainly makes your collecting more meaningful than just a personal acquisition of "stuff". Some kids learn best by seeing and touching things, and they would have enjoyed this as much as you did. I'm a fairly regular...

    My 109's

James: And here I was celebrating the fact that I finally managed to score one. Although it came from Tony's collection so its not just any old 109. :)

My Saxon M1867 Garde Reiter Helmets

Impressive items James. I've never seen one "in the flesh". Thanks for posting.

Is this a genuine Garde buckle ?

Same here. Never seen one or heard of the existence of these. Never seen one where the emblem was mounted using nuts and bolts. But...I'm prepared to be educated.

M95 Saxon 12th Field Artillery Pickelhaube

Ahhh...yes. It didn't occur to me that someone would replace the threaded Kugel with a threaded Spitze.

M95 Saxon 12th Field Artillery Pickelhaube

Could it be 1st Royal Saxon Train Battalion Nr.12 stationed at Dresden? I believe they had brass fittings and wore a black parade bush hence the removable spike. Nice helmet. Especially nice to have the original Saxon Kokarden.

    Dry Cracks on Pickelhaube

That's the "Poster Child" for why they implemented a dress regulation restricting the height of spikes. Nice looking helmet though.

Why Do I Collect this Stuff ?

I certainly miss Steve. In fact, I was thinking about him just yesterday as I was looking over some of my Kaiser Prizes. He obviously had a collection that most of us could never eclipse but never gave a hint of operating on a higher level. He was always asking questions and seeking to...

    Reservist’s Coffee Cup

Thanks for commenting. I was wondering who was giving the cup to whom. I assume that the vendors in the garrison towns would have more ready access to this sort of gift for sale to reservists away from home. I like the fact that the cup was very well used over the years. Not just placed on...

    Reservist’s Coffee Cup

Here’s a cup I’ve had for years which has me wondering. I think this is a coffee cup given by a father (Jakob Pies) to his son Mathias? I translate the script beneath the name “Jakob? Pies” as: “Remembering my beloved son Mathias serving with the 2nd Company of the 2nd Upper Rhine Infantry...

Why Do I Collect this Stuff ?

Being born in 1955 I grew up surrounded by veterans. Starting school in 1961 my school crossing guard was a WW1 veteran. In those days a crossing guard was invariably an elderly vet who wore a navy-blue military uniform with visor cap. I recall his tunic having some ribbons on it but they meant...

    Prussian See Battalion Tschako

A beautiful piece and must be quite rare. FWIW I would consider that the Neusilber fittings link it to some technical branch. Telegraph troops would be a logical conclusion.

    Carl Zeiss Binoculars

Peter: No need to apologize for the intro to Artillery ranging. I find it quite interesting. In fact, I have somewhere around here a log book that belonged to a gunner in the early days of WW2. I think he was Canadian. It introduced me to the intricacies of long range artillery work taking...
