That's an interesting way of summarizing the helmet fittings data.

My favorite find of the year

Well done. What a great item. Doesn't get any better if you're looking for a Hessian infantry helmet.

    Royal Lanark Militia

    A beautiful pair of helmets.

    Mützenbänder of Imperial Times

Never seen one of these tallies. What would the function of someone wearing this tally be? I assume attached to a U-boat flotilla but not serving as a crew member of a working U-boat?

The Great White North Dec 2025

Just reinforces our decision to spend our Winters in Southern Portugal. Other than not being able to play hockey I won't miss Winter in Eastern Ontario one bit.

    Local find

I would say it's a Beampten official. The absence of the small silver Prussian Eagle would argue for it being purchased prior to the introduction of the small silver Adler in 1905. And yes,, it can be a complex area. I believe the 1905 regulations fitting this helmet are: Gold fittings, no...

    weekly sales in America

I suspect all of us have Wappens (Wappenen?) sitting in the proverbial "parts drawer" just waiting for the appropriate helmet to make its appearance.

    Saxon "ersatz" troop helmet

A rare helmet with a great look to it.

Thank you for that clarification Philippe.

A rather battered Saxon M95 enlisted helmet. It shows it has been used.

It shows pretty well to my eyes. Looks like original chin strap, original round Kokarden, unless the liner's missing it it look good. The shell dent can be removed fairly easily.

A Garde Infanterie M95 enlisted haube came my way.

I suspected as much although most private purchased helmets had some element of "I could afford to buy my own helmet" as part of the package. Perhaps that statement is made by having the pre-1891 chinscales permanently mounted instead of the M91 removable chinscales? If memory serves, I think...

Prussian Artillery, new to the collection :)

Mea Culpa. That was my error. I made that mistake in my Fussartillerie Find post yesterday. Should have known better the "Fuss" was a clue.

Clovis: Thanks for taking the time to put together this very detailed response. It's the willingness to freely share this sort of knowledge that makes this forum so valuable' It's much appreciated, particularly your assertion considering the rear spine. One look at it "in hand" makes it very...

    Fuss Artillerie Find

Clovis: Being raised in 1864 and being the senior Fussartillerie Regiment as well as East Prussian unit it must have been a forgone conclusion for the regiment to have been awarded the FWR cyphered Wappen plus the right to wear a parade bush.

    Fuss Artillerie Find

Brian: You're right about the Fussartillerie having the vented rear spine as they were considered unmounted troops. With the helmet in hand you can make out a faint 1915 stamp inside the dome of the shell, so it should have had the correct spine. It's also apparent that the rear spine has...

    Fuss Artillerie Find

I have the helmet in hand now and there are a couple of peculiarities about it. As I suspected the damaged Wappen is the larger 1871 pattern which never belonged on this 1895 pattern helmet. It will be replaced with the proper sized 1895 pattern Wappen with the FWR cypher. The helmet was...

    Gewehr 98 Markings

The stamps on the woodwork is what I was inquiring about. Much like the ones in your first photo. I thought they may be a regimental QM marking. Thanks for educating me on this topic.

    Gewehr 98 Markings

I don't collect military firearms as my hunting firearms have my two gun cabinets pretty much full. I picked up a Gewehr 98 in a weak moment many years ago because the price was too good to ignore. Never been fired as the bolt and the receiver serial numbers are a mismatch. I could get a...
