    Fuss Artillerie Find

The lack of any Kammer Stampings and the paper label with what I assume would have included the owner's name would lead me to conclude that the helmet was a private purchase piece. If that's a valid conclusion then it's possible that the owner was attached to the Rekruten-Depot and not just...

    Fuss Artillerie Find

No I don't, but that's where it came from. And as we both know, it's not a Fusilier Artillery helmet. ;) I know the owner and have dealt with him on and off for 30 years or more.

    Fuss Artillerie Find

Any thoughts on the top line of the paper label? R_ _ _ r . Dep. (Depot?) And, on the far left it looks like a number 4 just to the left of the tear? Possibly 4 R _ _ _ r. Dep. ?

    Fuss Artillerie Find

My latest find is this restoration project helmet. This, to me, is what collecting is all about. It’s gratifying when you can use your knowledge to understand that an item on offer is more than it’s been represented to be. I also enjoy restoring helmets that have been abused over the years. I...

    Restoration questions

Gord: That's a great looking collection. I used to have a corner on 21st Battalion collecting but back in 2014 I let it all go along with the Pipe Major's complete uniform minus the spats. I wrote the history of the unit back in 2008. My Imperial German collecting is (with a great deal of...

    Restoration questions

Gord: Fellow Canadian here. I collect Canadian CEF medals and Imperial German. You'll find that pictures are a prime means of communication here. "Picture is worth a thousand words" sort of thing. Welcome to the forum.

    Tellermütze linked to ships

Dane: I get it. I like these Kaiserliche Marine Tellermutzen as well. I'm looking for a Matrosen example from a ship that was at Jutland. Quite hard to find Matrosen examples, at least in my experience.

    Untouched eBay find.

That's quite a find. It's hard to find decent M16's with the original Feldgrau on them these days.

    Original or copy

It certainly look s like someone possibly used two damaged Wappens to create this Frankenwappen.

    Prussian M95 Pioneer

Brian: That must have been hard. I have a couple of "scrapper" M15 shells sitting in the top of a closet where they have been languishing for decades now. I can't bring myself to trash them. At least of you some Neusilber parts and they seem to always be in demand.

which wappen could that be, I think pioneer

Most likely Pioneer but also some Telegraph troops

    Prussian M95 Pioneer

Back in the 70's and early 80's Neats Foot oil was widely recommended as a leather preservative and sadly ruined god knows how many helmets etc as a result. I too followed some pretty stupid advice from a supposed "Expert" after Eric Johannson published his "Pickelhauben" book wherein he...

Looks like an interesting show. I love Belgium and yes, it's a terrific place for beer lovers.

    Extradegen Königlich Bayerisches 2. Ulanen-Regiment „König“

A beautiful sword. These blued panel swords are hard to resist for me. I've been tempted to go down that collecting road several times and have the swords to prove it. Thanks for sharing this one.

    Saxon 107.R.

That's about as good as it gets in Saxon OR's helmets. The shell is in great shape and the Kokarden are pristine.

    Ottoman Uniforms

My favourite "Canadian" medal group in my collection from The Great War is a trio to Private Frederick Wilcox who was KIA on July 1st 1916 at Beaumont Hamel. That morning the Newfoundland Regiment was virtually wiped out. 29 officers and 669 OR's went "Over the Top". The next morning 3 officers...

New here and need some help

I suspect both cockades aren't original. It appears that the visor trim has been re-sized due to shrinking of the leather. That squared end on the left side of the helmet along with the indentations as a result of crimping the brass to the leather is a giveaway.
