Maybe it's my eyesight but it looks to me that the front visor on Helmet # 1 was re-stitched at some point, possibly the rear visor as well?

Welcome to the forum William. I was about your age when I started collecting Pickrlhauben when I entered high school back in 1969. There's a lot to learn but there's also infinitely more access to that knowledge then there was back in the early days.

It's a gorgeous helmet. To me nothing evokes the elegance of Imperial Germany better than a lobster tailed cavalry helmet.

Dane: Glad to hear you found your dream rifle. I have one myself. It's been sitting in one of my gun cabinets for a long time. Nice to see yours has the sling as well. I believe they are hard to find. I must have a look at it as I recall it is regimentally marked on the butt.

That's a good looking cap. It's in pristine condition and looks good in the display cabinet.

Interesting. I assume this is because of the lead content in traditional tin/lead solder.? Soldering in the commercial world is now done using Lead free ROHS compliant solder. Does the same job but requires a higher temperature to reach the melting point.

The interior is a bit rough but the exterior is in very good shape with the exception of the domed studs for the spike base which should be replaced with proper star studs. This is is easy to do. The major flaw in my view is the "Frankenstein" repair to the rear visor. I'd be looking to...

Perhaps English is not your first language but, "Give me your opinions" is interpreted as a demand not a request. It's considered rude and impolite. I suspect that's why no one has responded. "Please give me your opinions" will encourage a better reaction.

I agree with Tony on the carrying case issue. I have only one which sits on a shelf in the basement. It's nice to show how these helmets were stored/transported but they take up too much display area, What I find interesting is that Beampten helmets seem to be coming out of the woodwork in...

No it didn't. One of the reasons I was skeptical was the fact that it was so cheap. It was on one of those local auctions where you're betting that the seller doesn't know what they have. Turns out they didn't. But then neither did I. Live and Learn. Cheers: Steve

As Rkinade says it displays well, although to the trained eye the tip of the spike jumps out as incorrect. it should be the same colour as the spike base. I suspect that the spike base has been replaced with one that was possibly sand blasted. The spike domed studs should be the same colour as...

Very nice! You some times see Steins from a unit that won a prize that include a representation of the prize. I don't think I've seen a piece like this one before. Maybe the members of the winning battery went this route as a memento instead of the usual commemorative stein as a remembrance...
