Highland Light Infantry - 'Hells Last Issue'

As mentioned earlier, I have a fondness for the Lowland regiments as my forebears hailed from Roxburoughshire on The Borders. The shako is a lovely piece in fine condition. Speaking of David Niven, his autobiography "The Moon's a Balloon" is hilarious, as are some of his remembrances of his...

    Authentic OR's 1B RIR111 Pickelhaube?

I think you did quite well to pick up this helmet for $450. It looks like you have an original chinstrap and original Bavarian and Baden cockades. Those items alone would justify the cost of the helmet. Plus you will have hours of fun tracking down the history of the owner and the helmet...

You've come to the right place. There are at least a couple of us here that dabble in Nihonto as well.

    Bavarian Zweispitze Parade Feathers

Here is a parade bush for a Bavarian General that I’ve had for over 25 years. This came to me when I purchased the pickelhaube of Major-General Karl Leichtenstern back in the late 90’s. The pickelhaube came with the Trichter and these feathers were in the storage tube. At the time I didn’t...

    East Asian Wappen

Zeb: Thanks. It took a few days of picking away with the aid of a Lapidary magnifier and the antler horn (will not scratch the metal) along with some soap and water and a tooth brush. Quite pleased with the way it has turned out.

    East Asian Wappen

Interesting. If I read you correctly, there was no difference in the dies used for the OR's and the Officer versions. Only the final finish ie. the gilt finish on the officers as opposed to brass for OR's? Having this one "in-hand" it is definitely a "cut above" in terms of the gilt finish...

    Landwehr officer Prussia

Nice helmet in great condition. Is the Prussian Landeskokarden in the NCO style?

    East Asian Wappen

Jay: Thank you for the positive reactions. Much appreciated. One question. I assume that for this Reichs Adler there is only one version. So there is no distinction between officer and OR's?

    East Asian Wappen

As an update to my initial post when I hadn’t yet picked up the Wappen from the auction house, I’ve since been able to spend some time cleaning up the verdigris and other foreign matter on the Wappen. Although not finished I think it’s much improved. I was very careful to not remove any of the...
