Well, that's an interesting idea. I've managed to stick myself several times using the pins method. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

John: Very interesting item for sure. My money is they were made in Germany using existing dies at least for the shells, I'd bet my next pay cheque (easy for me to say now that I'm retired) that there are photos in newspaper archives. If these were for ceremonial and state occasions there...

Thanks for weighing in James. That's good to hear. I've never seen one in the flesh before. I'll have to spend some time researching the East Asian contingents. It's a topic I haven't bothered with much as in my experience I figured the odds of encountering something like this were pretty long.

Steve: I can see why you'd think that but IR 178 was a Saxon unit. 176 was West Prussian.

Dane: It's nice to see you have the complete set and all in good condition too. As mentioned completing the set for the Navy would be considerable harder but doable. I've only found one so far and it's the black version and the easiest to find. I can't say that it's a priority for me.

It's coming from an estate auction and judging by some of the objects being auctioned it would seem the family had German roots plus there was a selection of objects with an East Asian connection so I suspect a family member at some point was posted there. It was the only military related...

Great acquisition Steve, That 1907 prize is beautiful and the mounting to the tunic is very well done.

I'd feel comfortable putting that on one of my helmets.
