    Saxon 107.R.

Congratulations on a nice looking helmet, However imo the regimental marking are scratched-in rather than stamped, which I'm a bit suspicious of. Regards, Lars

    Prussian M15

Nice helmet Brian, Looking forward to the restauration. The B.A. stamp looks like B.A. VII. to me, possibly B.A. VIII., which explains the Prussian Wappen. I have seen B.A. VII. use such a yellow stamp before. Interesting to see the PB 3 stamp on a helmet from a different corps. Regards, Lars

    Ottoman Uniforms

Very nice, I really like battlefield finds. All that I managed to find on my short visit to Gallipoli while touring Turkey was a cartridge case in the trenches opposite Johnston's Jolly :) C A C 10 13 = Colonial Ammunition Co., (Melbourne, AUS, or Auckland, NZ), Oct. 1913 Regards, Lars

    Insane letter/photo grouping

Congratulations Dane, What a wonderful grouping. You have letters / postcards, and pictures, and you can probably find his military records in the Bavarian archives online (not all records have survived), so you'll have the complete story. Regards, Lars

    Why are these epaulets backwards?

Thanks, It's a nice early picture :) It does seem the photographer retouced something button-like at the bottom of the shoulder strap, don't know why. He also seems to have added a "Gefreiter" button to the collar. Interesting to see how AI interpreted the grainyness of the picture as freckles...

    Why are these epaulets backwards?

Hi, This photograph has two issues that make it hard to see anything on the shoulder straps. First, the photographer has retouched the image, and he seems to have outlined the shoulder straps and covered them in a lighter colour, making any numbers that might have been visible harder to see...

(Near) Mint Shoulder Straps on Ebay

I've bought a couple of straps from the same seller in the meantime, and as far as I can see they all look ok. I've posted my most recent one here https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/opinions-on-39-shoulder-straps.19977/post-162866. But I also found a website of a Polish reproducer...

    Opinions on "39" Shoulder Straps

A new addition, not a very special shoulder strap but I have been looking for a good example for decades. The Michael Baldwin auction had one https://bid.candtauctions.co.uk/lot-details/index/catalog/38/lot/12038/5x-M07-14-Field-Grey-Tunic-Shoulder-Boards?url=/auctions/catalog/id/38 (now only...

    GrR9 for dunkelblau

Hi, That might also be possible, but I thought that the Bavarian uniforms are a lighter blue, and then the shoulder strap backing should also be a lighter blue. Often (but not always) the Bavarian "1" doesn't have a "foot" at the bottom, whereas all Prussians do. I don't know of any other...

    GrR9 for dunkelblau

Nice straps, and the reuse of the straps with a different number shows how frugal the Prussians were. Couldn't the red strap also be Pionier Btl 9? Regards, Lars

    M1915 Canteen Labels

Hi, I also think it's a manufacturer's label. Different manufacturers have different locations and shapes for their labels, which will make it easier to identify this particular manufacturer when you search the internet. I copied this list in 2018, unfortunately the website doesn't seem to exist...

Question About German Machine Gunner's Kit & Uniform 191

The Baden-Württemberg has a very nice picture of this particular Beilpicke Futteral (carrying case) for MG troops: http://www.landesarchiv-bw.de/plink/?f=4-1592282-1 Using the left and right arrow keys other MG tools (spade & axe) and their carrying cases are shown. Regards, Lars

Paraden-/Zeremonienhelm des Garde-Reiter-Regiments, Dresden, signiert Otto Schneider, Berlin, aus Silber 800, mit Monogramm König Friedrich August III

Hello, Welcome to the forum. This looks more like an ornament than an actual helmet made for wear. The metal seems very thick, the helmet rather crudely made, and no means to attach a liner? Regards, Lars

    WWI Imperial German identity Disc

Hi Anthony, Welcome to the forum. Landwehr Infanterie Regiment 74, 2nd company, number 176 in the “Kriegs-Stammrollen” list. It is the old model identity disc, in use until a new model was introduced on 28.7.1915 that also contained the soldier’s name and city. Regards, Lars
