    That is very well done!

    JR. 94

Hi, Looks correct on the outside, not sure what the liners on these older uniforms (large buttons) should look like. Moths like wool, not linen, so I’m not concerned about the difference in wear. 3rd Cie. never fits MGK 😀 Regards, Lars

    Pickelhaube Opinion

Hi Rocky, Nice helmet, and nicely marked! As said, a shame that someone added an extra plate, but hopefully that only added two small holes on the back. The eagle belongs to the helmet, that also fits with IR 136. I’m no expert on this type of helmet, but it looks ok to me. The disc under the...

    A.K.O. and K.M.V.

The "Armee-Verordnungsblätter" contain quite a lot of them, but not all. Scanned by Google, accesible in the US through hathitrust.org.

A spiked helmet with banner 1655

I'm sorry to say but I don't like the stamps, it seems like some underlying stamps have been rubbed out, and new ones put on top. I don't like the font, or the smudginess of the stamps that seems to be the same on both sides, even though the stamping should have taken place at different times...

    Spammer on the forum

The spammer is very recognizable (writing in Russian?), just ignore his posts and report, and the admin will remove the posts. Imo slightly annoying, but no big deal.

    My Great-Great-Grandfather Wilhelm Wagner c1880

Hi Taylor, Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on this picture of your early ancestor. I'm no expert on these early uniforms, but Bavarian Ulan seems to fit as far as I can see. Military service was an important event in imperial Germany, and many soldiers got their picture taken in uniform at...

    A new project for Peter.

Thanks Wojtek, They are painted, and where the paint is missing the metal underneath has oxidized; easier to see with Wappen in hand, maybe better to see in this close-up. Regards, Lars

    A new project for Peter.

Hi Wojtek, Took some pictures, and I see the same paint spilling over from the front on my Wappen (clearly visible at the back of the "little eagle"). Due to the quality of the painting, the way that on some spots the paint seems to have been intentionally removed to shine the brass underneath...

    A new project for Peter.

Thank you for the picture of the back, I agree it looks like paint spilling over from the front. I will see if I can make a picture of mine, maybe they’re all repainted 😱 Regards, Lars

    A new project for Peter.

Are you sure these are repairs? The Wappen on three of my M95 EM helmets look very similar, clearly painted, and oxidized where the paint has disappeared, however the back still shows the undamaged paint. Imo the paint on my three Wappen is original, not a repair. Are there any indications that...

    Chinscale Question Revised.

Hi Philippe, Hopefully not too off-topic ;) After an initial training to get the OYV "trained up", they became part of a company with the other (non-OYV) enlisted men, and spent quite some time there before moving up to being an NCO, etc. I have an album from a OYV in JB 7, where he can be seen...

Any pipe smokers out there - so not you Amy!

Hi Steve, A lifetime ago I used to smoke a pipe occasionally when I was a student, my favorite being the Balkan Sobranie Original blend (black & white pouch), but I don't think that is similar to your Sobranie Reserve Blend? Regards, Lars

Prussia - Chinstrap or Chinscales on the helmet for parades or in the garrison?

Hi Sandy, Thank you for your post, very interesting. According to the Prussian 1903 Bekleidungsordnung, Beilage 1., most of the infantry regiments no longer have chinscales specified, which I interpret as that they can't wear any, ever ;) Regards, Lars

    Chinscale Question Revised.

As far as I know, the OYV bought / rented (older) equipment and uniform from the regiment for daily use, and private purchase items were only allowed to be worn outside of "working hours" outside the barracks. This also makes sense, as the wear and tear on uniform and equipment is considerable...

    Spammer on the forum

This forum is very accessible and welcoming by being free, and also allows people to ask maybe just one question that they otherwise wouldn't have asked. It would be a shame to lose that over the occasional hassle of spammers, who typically are also very recognizable as such so we don't need to...
