Ersatz model 1895 converted to ersatz 1915

I agree with Ron. A few years ago, I saw a small craftsman who made wheel trims for classic cars like that. Then the piece was chromed...

    My 109's

Very nice, James, i like the 109 LGR !!! Two old helmets from the LGR109 put back into service at mobilization, for the 1st Grenadier Battalion of the R.I.R.109, with stock fittings.

    M1887's in various forms.

The genuine M87 should have a tip chimney without a Perlring, a rear spine without a ventilation flap, an absent metal visor rim, hooked side posts, and a chinstrap with an anchor ring. It's clear that quite a few helmets have been recycled.

    M1887's in various forms.

Hello James 😳👍👌 I love the M87s, they are so rare! In France, they are shunned, like the M71s, because they did not participate in either the Franco-Prussian War or the Great War.

Ersatz model 1895 converted to ersatz 1915

Yes, it's perfect. You should prioritize paints thinned with white-spirit (cellulose) rather than water-based paints (vinyl, acrylic, etc.).

    "Festungs-Pionier Bataillon Nr. 23" Pickelhaube

I managed to find a few of them here in Lorraine, for various reasons, particularly in cases where these regiments had made incursions onto the Eastern Front. This is the case of the P.B.23 which was part of the 3rd Army present here in France in 1916. (Verdun-Douaumont-Vaux) The 23rd Parachute...

    "Festungs-Pionier Bataillon Nr. 23" Pickelhaube

Very nice. ;) Note: In 1907 it was part of the XVII Army Corps in Danzig. In 1912 it was part of the XX Army Corps in Allenstein. (Battle of Tannenberg) https://genwiki.genealogy.net/PB_23

    M18 Ear cutout.

At least this one isn't a fake made in Ukraine or Poland.

Ersatz model 1895 converted to ersatz 1915

I'm showing this photo because of the absence of helmet covers on the battlefield, due to the khaki color. However, the caption is incorrect; the helmets are one-piece Ersatz helmets made of embossed metal with an X-shaped spike attachment (not Bing helmets). Bing helmets have a different shape...

Ersatz model 1895 converted to ersatz 1915

Yes, there are rules regarding the colors black or Feldgrau for sheet metal Pickelhauben. *** Bavarian Bing tanks are always painted black. ... Weissenburger, Von der Heyden, Schneller, Baruch, and a few others were painted black. ---Weissenburger or VdH 1 typ M14 brass and black...

Sometimes Helmut has one for sale.

Ersatz model 1895 converted to ersatz 1915

This model has the peculiarity of having the 4 rivets fixing the tip in an X shape and not in a + shape as usual. This type of sheet metal helmet is always painted olive green at the factory. Black is not the correct color.

    Wanted; Helm M/1887 Preußen

Hello Frank, Yes, sorry, but I don't have a spare M87. My second one is a 109 from the mobilization, which was originally an M95, whose B.A. XIV replaced the M91 post-side chinstrap with an M87 hook-type one. The old brand of the M91 side post is clearly visible. This helmet was a Baden 109 LGR...

    Pickelhaube Mod 95 - 10° FAR

Hello Giorgio, Following up on what I said in the question post about the rear spine vent... This helmet is an M95 from an Feld-Artillerie-Regiment, even though it has a rear spine without a vent flap. The date of receipt is 1901. Furthermore, it has the details of an M95, namely brass eyelets...

    Wanted; Helm M/1887 Preußen

Hello Franck, The M87s are very rare, as most were modified into M91s with a side post. All the best. I'll take this opportunity to highlight the specific features: ---no brass visor trim, but a leather rim. --no beading at the tip, but still a ferrule to seal the vents. --chinstrap with...

    Reproduction IR 22 Pickelhaube

It all comes down to price. At $180, this reproduction is a worthwhile investment, especially for reenactments. Regarding restoration, yes, we get very good results with a kettle. We pass the inside of the helmet over the steam, then the outside (for about fifteen seconds). Then we let it cool...

    My Ersatz collection

Congratulations Andy! Congratulations Andy ! (y) This is the first time I've seen a spiked helmet made of sieve wire wrapped in cardboard. Unique, or nearly so. Here is an A.K.O which prescribes the obligation to provide Ersatz for the Landsturm at the beginning of 1915.

A doubt about my Kugelhelm 10° FAR

Tous les casques dotés d'une dorsale arrière mais dépourvus de volet de ventilation n'ont pas d'aération sous la nuque. (Casques d'infanterie M60, Dragon, M71, etc.) ---However, from M95 onwards, the spiked infantry helmets (JR, PB, AzuF, TB...) have a flap behind the spike AND a vent on...
