A doubt about my Kugelhelm 10° FAR

Hello Giorgio, that's exactly right. Until 1895, the rear spine of all spiked helmets, without exception, had no upper ventilation flap and no vent under the neck guard. This refers to the M71 model. In 1895, helmets for infantry troops received these vents (infantry, foot artillery (heavy...

    Reproduction IR 22 Pickelhaube

Regarding the front plate worn by mountain machine gunners and troops in Macedonia and the Balkans, it was a slightly different type. The front plates were always curved banner-shaped. This type, shaped like a bridge with the R above it, never existed.

Is this a genuine Garde buckle ?

Perhaps a good Garde-Stern for Garde-Adler at most.

    Reproduction IR 22 Pickelhaube

Yes, I saw one for sale a few years ago, here in Lorraine. The seller thought I was paranoid when I told him it was a reproduction. He'd bought it for a very high price, as a "rare item," and didn't want to lose money. I think he passed the buck, as we say here in France.

    M15 Prussian Pickelhaube- J.R. 156

I own one from this regiment. It fought in August 1914, in the Longwy region, on the Franco-Belgian border. Mine has been modified to M15 specifications and bears a second regimental marking, that of the 23rd LIR (Landwehr). Both regiments were from Upper Silesia. They both bear the same hallmark...

    Dragoon Eagles differences

Thanks Rob, I chose it because it's in its original state, and everything indicates that the eagle has never left this hull for a century.

    Gard M16 camo

As mentioned above, contemporary painting done by a speculative margoulin. Rusted paint on the hull, voluntary blows in the paint, to give an aspect of "experience". Excessive, "crumbling" rust accelerated by a corrosive device such as acid or salt. Fake camouflage, fake inner liner, and also...

M95 Saxon 12th Field Artillery Pickelhaube

Yes, J-J. But the Bavarians will not have a ball crest until after April 1916, when the iron-lined helmet-Feldgrau was adopted by the King and the Bavarian General Staff. So never on helmets with brass inserts.

M95 Saxon 12th Field Artillery Pickelhaube

1-Nothing found on Lengendorf, but I’ll let "Argonne" answer, he’s the specialist. 2-The gunners strictly had a ball-head. The only exception was the Bavarian artillery. Here, it will absolutely be necessary to replace the tip with a ball, to be consistent with the marking. ;)

M95 Saxon 12th Field Artillery Pickelhaube

Yes: --For mounted artillery, or towed artillery, intended to accompany infantry charges, it is written: F.A.R. for Feld-Artillerie-Regiment. --For artillery on foot, (heavy artillery, fortress, siege, position, or marine artillery mounted on rail (wagon), it is written: -A. or A.F. or A zu...

    Helmet Garde Cuirassier 3 Eskadron

To revive tombac, nickel silver, and brass, avoid sanding and abrading. The metal sheet is very thin, and sanding it weakens it. The best is to soak the helmet in a bucket filled with rainwater, (not limestone) with addition of one liter of hydrochloric acid. We let it soak for 24 hours because...

M95 Saxon 12th Field Artillery Pickelhaube

Thank you, Alan, for having perfectly conveyed my thoughts. I add that in this case, since this helmet does not come from the B.A. XII, it does not have the typically Saxon marking as infra.

    M16 shell found

A rare Richard Lindenberg A.G. Mine shows side posts quite special. They are made of smaller steel and are covered with brass caps from side post M95 for tip helmets. We know one or two others in France with this extremely rare feature. Was it an inconclusive test, to prevent the chin strap key...

No, because in that case we would have T.B.12 and not 12 A. This point is a mistake.

    Dragoon Eagles differences

It’s just a problem with the vintage drawing. The November 1860 eagle is slightly different from the next one, which dates back to 1895. Here is the M60 : On a Jäger zu°M1905 helmet, such an eagle is a reused eagle from a Dragon helmet. Despite everything, this M60 design reappears on some...

    Prussian See Battalion Tschako

Very nice work. On the other hand, you use a seamstress needle... too sharp. It pricks instead of running into the hole. Use a saddler-saddler-leatherworker needle, with a rounded tip, and you’ll see that it gets better. 😇

    M15 Prussian enlisted Mans Pickelhaube

Nice M15 manufactured new, on that date, and not recycled "M95." The absence of regiment number is compliant and regulatory. The AK VIII is the AK of Rhineland, formed by the 15th Infantry Division of Koblenz and the 16th of Trier. https://genwiki.genealogy.net/VIII._Armeekorps_(Alte_Armee)

M95 Saxon 12th Field Artillery Pickelhaube

Beautiful...but... Two observations: --Your helmet is not an F.A.R 12 but a Saxon, 12 A., implying "zu Fuß" stationed in METZ (Reichsland Elsass-Lothringen). Indeed, it shows a rear spine cwith ventilation flap and ventilation hole under the neck cover. The F.A.R’s being "mounted" did not...
