This from Jan Kube this AM, just as an FYI: "By US customs regulations my catalogue of Special Auction Sept. 27th was not forwarded to my US clients but sent back to me this morning! Please have a look to this fine auction at www.kube-auktionen.de , thankyou! PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS IN...

Agreed Steve - the pick of this week's litter, in my view.

    Kaiserliche Marine Officer Visor Cap

Very interesting Steve. Would love to see some detailed photos of this one - wonder where it ended up? An interesting thread with a bunch of (non-royal identified) examples, many from Herr Weitze's previous inventory is here...

Wanted: Officer Spike / Service Tip(s)

Understood - that's one of the reasons I am looking for more than one (that, and having a few parade trichter-only helmets I'd like to complete). Would also be interested in unscrewable spikes with their associated round officer spike bases, if anyone has high-quality gilt spares. 😺

Wanted: Officer Spike / Service Tip(s)

I am looking for one or two high-quality gilt service tips for the removable/unscrewable officer spike. If anyone has some knocking around their spare parts collection, I am interested! Shoot me a PM.

    Mystery Zweispitz

I am no expert on heraldry, but I think some Hessian-related house is a good guess. Those look like lions to me, and assuming the colors are age-darkened silver and red both point to Hesse. The crest has three helmets, which I think means the bearer was heir to three fiefdoms. All of the...

    Kaiserliche Marine Officer Visor Cap

A beautiful example Hans! Was Weitze selling it as belonging to Adalbert? The monogram certainly looks legit to me. They were usually gilt (as in the example Steve shared) or less commonly in finely detailed black. Seems to have been a personal preference matter, but I've more often seen...

Die Grauen Felduniformen der Deutschen Armee 1914

I had a recent request for the big files of these again, so briefly re-opened a WeTransfer site. PM (before August 31) if you'd like a link. 😺

    -Bad Arolsen-Residenzschloß-Deutschland

Agreed. I seem to recall they did have a US distribution partner for a while, with a limited selection (usually the most recent books) but I have no idea what happened to that arrangement. Ironic that the enormity and weight of these massively comprehensive books, which is a testament to their...

    Dresden-Wehrtechnisches Museum der Bundeswehr-Deutschland

100% agree, unless there is a concern with light causing damage (which I can't see as a problem with artificial light or with pickelhauben in general). The darkness of the helmet wall is clearly suboptimal. In other news: Is that totenkopf saddle cloth embroidered with cowrie shells?? What a...

Same question - what does "woke" mean in this context? On this side of the pond, it's been overused to the point of being synonymous with "I don't like it" these days. Thanks! (And these are marvelous threads Francis - I really appreciate your pictures)

Leib-Husaren Rgt. 1 Flag of first photo

Yes - and pretty sure both 1LHR1 and 2LHR2 were XVII Corps, not Garde Corps (re: B.A.G. stamp)

Am I seeing this one correctly?

Agreed on all of the above. Could also explain the NCO Prussian kokarde where the Bavarian would have been swapped out. Interesting in that it looks like the front brad on the spike base is a split pin that has not been opened for some reason...can't imagine that would have been comfortable...
