Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA) Pre-War Officer's Dress Forage Cap

Also got this at the same auction as the Pickelhaube Inkwell. One of my favourites now given my service with the RCA. My apologies for the dusty lint covered pictures with the whiter background - they were from the auction site. Much cleaner now.

    Mini Pickelhaube Inkwell

No I think it is just part of making it look cool. There are a few variants out there. Here are a couple of pictures from a quick internet search.

    Mini Pickelhaube Inkwell

Thanks James - that is why I couldn't resist it. Was the same auction with that other Grenadier Wappen I was going to bid on. So glad I got the one from you!

Couldn't resist this Pickelhaube Inkwell at a recent Canadian auction. Two pictures in my display and some from the auction listing.

    Pickelhaube eagle ID question

I agree. Look at the change in the wappen I got from James just from cleaning with vinegar and a bit of salt and then some dish soap.

    Opinions on Wappen

Ouch! My eyes hurt just thinking about it. I learned this from forum members to get some verdigris from the wappen on my first Pickelhaube. Then used it again when I bought a plaque with an Artillery home service helmet badge on it that had turned brown. Got it from Military Antiques TO and...

    Opinions on Wappen

I put it in vinegar with a bit of salt and then used a soft toothbrush to scrub it with that mixture. I then used dishwashing liquid after to clean it again with the toothbrush. I just go slowly.

Here it is in my display (sorry for the dust!) Guess I'll have to move that bayonet a bit! Don't want to block it.

    Opinions on Wappen

So Mr. Impatient (that would be me) decided to buy a Wappen from James. I'll still bid on the one above in this thread but was worried I might not win. Now some may hate this but here is the before and after of the Grenadier Wappen from James. (Okay pictures ended up after then before). I...

    SOS 2026

Congratulations as well. I am on my second career after the Army and keep setting decision points. Next one is 65 years old in just over a year. My motto is I will keep working until I am no longer having fun! I am lucky though in that even when I retire from full time I can do the...

On my post here: https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/imperial-saxe-coburg-gotha-police-commander-pickelhaube.21588/#post-166859 Clovis showed a Saxon Gendarmerie one as well with the same Wappen but a slightly different spike.

Both have the same style of liner as well.

I think the rear of the spike base is just not pressed down enough. Look at the one on IMA.
