Hey gang. I refer to you specialists as these wonderful helmets are not my area of expertise.
The felt 'ersatz' haube: when were these introduced? I heard they were created as a result of a leather shortage at the beginning of the war. Is that it?
Were they introduced in 1914 until the leather manufacturers caught up to demand?
Just trying to learn more about them.
