Pre-1911 Prussian Grenadier

Here’s a helmet I picked up at a local on-line auction. I bought it based on the photos which weren’t great quality but the price was right so I’m happy to have picked it up. I essentially got it for the price of the Wappen.

Not Kammer marked and the Wappen is not original to the helmet. It has a pre-1911 Grenadier Wappen, but with it in-hand you can see the outline of the original Prussian Line Infantry Wappen. The Kokarden and the chinstrap are good quality repros.

It’s also apparent that the black metal reinforcing plate must have been assembled on the exterior many years ago and someone has removed it and re-assembled on the interior not so many years ago.

Regardless, it’s a good representative piece that will do until a better one comes along.

Congratulations on this great condition helmet Steve, and the hard to find wappen!

Over the years I have found quite a few helmets which had the round support plate on the outside of the helmet. On most of these helmets the metal support disc left an impression in the black finish, similar to on your helmet.

Thanks for the comment. It was a good opportunity to score a Grenadier Wappen on the cheap.

Regarding the support plate: These are found often enough to make me suspect that some of them were delivered from the suppliers like that. Poor quality control? Maybe the QM people on the receiving end just accepted them and issued them given the pressure on the supply chain.

"So what? The Uberzug covers it up anyway" may have been the thought process.

Voici un casque que j'ai acheté lors d'une vente aux enchères locale en ligne. Je l'ai acheté en me basant sur les photos qui n'étaient pas de grande qualité, mais le prix était correct, donc je suis content de l'avoir acheté. Je l'ai essentiellement obtenu pour le prix du Wappen.

Il n'y a pas de marquage Kammer et le Wappen n'est pas d'origine sur le casque. Il porte un Wappen de Grenadier d'avant 1911, mais avec celui-ci en main, vous pouvez voir le contour du Wappen d'infanterie de ligne prussien d'origine. Le Kokarden et la jugulaire sont des reproductions de bonne qualité.

Il est également évident que la plaque de renfort en métal noir a dû être assemblée à l'extérieur il y a de nombreuses années et que quelqu'un l'a retirée et réassemblée à l'intérieur il n'y a pas si longtemps.

Quoi qu'il en soit, c'est une bonne pièce représentative qui fera l'affaire jusqu'à ce qu'une meilleure arrive.

Beau mais je pense qu'il serait souhaitable de remettre une bonne jugulaire parce que ca fait un peu plastique quand même

Concernant la plaque de support : on en trouve suffisamment souvent pour me faire soupçonner que certaines d'entre elles ont été livrées par les fournisseurs comme ça. Contrôle de qualité médiocre ? Peut-être que les responsables de la gestion de la qualité à la réception les ont simplement acceptées et délivrées compte tenu de la pression exercée sur la chaîne d'approvisionne
