Todays Fleemarket find, Picture

Very interesting and emotional picture,
August belonged to the 111. Reserve Infanterie Regiment according to the German casualty list, which corresponds to the helmet number.
His head and an RIR 111 helmet have been glued on top of a Pionier picture, that doesn't mean this was his uniform when he was at war.
They probably didn't have a picture of him in uniform, so they fabricated one in his memory. Quite sad to think that this was all his relatives had of him.
Regards,
Lars

Hello, yes exactly. The soldier's head was added to the picture afterwards. You can often see something like this when no real photo in uniform was taken. Especially poorer people like farmers or workers did not always have the money for a photo in full gear before departing for the field. That's why there are also these two simple 'variants.' I always become thoughtful with such pictures. Losing a beloved relative in the war must be unbearable. If you don't even have a photo for remembrance, even more so. I think people at home desperately wanted to preserve a piece of memory. Hence these variants.
Best Regards Mike
