Hi All,

I am thinking of possibly buying this with a bit of restoration in mind.

Yes, the fangschnur is no good, and chin scales do not appear correct. It looks like one side is curved and the other is flat, also both have different rosettes. Plus check how the two sides are connected in the center. Just my observation, for what it’s worth.

yes, the fangschnur looks bad,
but i hadnt noticed one side of the chinscales looked flat an with a different rosette.
Thanks for pointing out that.

Depends on what you have to pay
There are corrections to be made that will cost
more money ( If you can find a correct pair of chin straps )
I would ask for a reduction in the price with the Fahngschnur removed
Have you seen photos of the plate removed so that you can see the back side
of the plate and if there are extra holes in the body ?
How U R 14 looks complete U R 14 Reserve officer.JPG

Price is currenty $2000, which doesnt sound to terrible as im in the UK and exchange rate is ok at the moment.
So replacement chinscales will turn up , the cord hangers i'm not to fussed about, so happy to lose.
I am told there are no extra holes, will be requesting extra pictures.
I'd be happier with yours :)

Yes the left hand scale is a flat infantry one as is its rosette. The right scale and rosette are convex and correct for this type of helmet. Probably this scale is original to the tschapka.

So the chinscales would probably be the hardest to find, a set that will fit properly, an officers field badge and officers cords to complete it, and of course some TLC.
Cheers,
Dennis

If you are looking to buy chin scales, count the number of scales on the correct one and use that as your determining factor. The good thing is that apparently there is one correct scale left. Customers of mine have bought replacement scales for me to put on and they do not fit the helmet! Something to think about.
