Very happy with my last antique shop find, as I will explain in short.
I was allways intrested in crests; familly crests, town and state crests ...
When I got in to the world of the familly crests it soon became a additional collecting field.
Familly crets can be found in all kind of subjects; buttons for personal clothing (in general silver (nikkel)for out door workers, gold (copper) for the indoor servants), on china, on pots and pan's, on flags and paintings,....name it, you might find some.
I had a nice one in wrought iron, still have some copper kitchen pots, quiet some button's, and just got this nice carved wooden crest.
It is quiet big (like 80cm wide), probably coming from a entry door or a chemeney...
Strange thing is that it is a crest of a belgian familly, and I got it here in France, as it was brought in the day before by a Belgian antique dealer....
It suffered a lot, and there is much repair to be done. But winter is coming ...;-)

I too am fascinated by crest. I used to collect US Army unit crest and small items like lighters, boxes with crest. I’m also very partial to religious icons and crucifixes. It may seem odd being a Protestant.

Beautiful sword…
