Absolutely worth restoring !!

It would be a worthwhile project, but you don’t know what lies beneath the black paint until you strip it off. I have restored 3 or 4 of these, and I believe I averaged 10 hours each sanding and polishing the steel bodies. You have to be careful not to abrade the soft brass during the process and the rivet heads on the lobster tail are difficult to work around. Still, pretty kool!

Absolutely worth restoring. Looks like a basic complete helmet that was painted black and just could be stripped. I don’t know what happened when I tried to bid, but it did not seem to go through, my bad luck. I think this helmet was worth a few hundred dollars more than what it went for. However, I do have another early Kurassier(1853) on the way that needs restoring. I’ll documents before and after pictures.
