Grenadier-Regiment zu Pferde Freiherr von Derfflinger (Neumärkisches) Nr. 3 help needed

Hello Everyone,

Since retiring I'm finally setting aside some time to start researching some of my Medals and need help with this one I have a few questions.

Looking at the Loyal to the Regiment Commemorative Cross for a former member of the Grenadier-Regiment zu Pferde Freiherr von Derfflinger (Neumärkisches) Nr. 3 it has the ribbon in the colors of the regiment but I don't think this medal was made with this ribbon color.

Could it have been an option when he purchased it ?

Also was the Grenadier-Regiment zu Pferde Freiherr von Derfflinger (Neumärkisches) Nr. 3 assigned to the Marine Corps therefore eligible to wear the Ehren- und Erinnerungskreuz Marinekorps Flandern (Flandernkreuz). ?

If so did they qualify for the Durchbruchsschlacht clasp?

I do not have the combat history on hand for them so would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance MFG John Josef

Hi John,

I'd try posting this on WAF Imperial Medals & Badges section. There are members there who will be able to tell you about these post-war veteran medals, the ribbons, and most likely someone there will chime in about whether or not this unit was qualified for the Flanders cross or not.

I myself do not have the knowledge needed to help you here with these post-war awards.

Hello Jens,

Thanks for your thoughts, we feel exactly the same and I think used the same sources Herr Nimmergut( RIP). I was unable to find this type of ribbon.
I do remember reading somewhere but I can't find it that Veterans where able to have it mounted on their Regimental Colors, but I am hoping for clarification to if that is really the case. The ribbon color looks like the trim on the horse blanket.

Here are the pictures you requested. I was also hoping someone may have the Regimental History, so I won't have to buy one. 😉 and they could tell me if they were part of the Flanderkorps and if so, what battles they took part in. Looks like another book may be in order. 😥

But it's hard to judge based only on photos.

Unfortunately, I don't know whether the DR3 was assigned to the Marine Corps.
It was probably under the command of the 4th Infantry Division (?), which was active in Flanders in mid-1918.

Hi Jens,

Thank you very much for your thoughts and the links. Being able to download those regimental Histories for 5 Euro is wonderful and a great savings from having to pay hundreds not to mentions those high shipping charges. I'm forever in your debt. (y)

The ribbon is very similar to the Saint Michael but in person the pink is much stronger on this Loyal to the Regiment Commemorative Cross. Again, thanks for your time and help I greatly appreciate it. MFG John
