Hi to everyone,
forgive me if is a silly question but I noticed that on some helmets there is a second set of front holes that were carefully closed at the time. Did this happen because the helmet was assigned to other corps? Or can you explain to me why this happened?
Really thanks for your time and the help.....:-))
Regards
Giorgio

The holes were filled in during that era and are still filled in today by collectors.Germans are a practical people, and good helmets were sent to storage to be used later..If the helmet was changed, a round or rectangular stamp was placed on the inside. I have a pickelhaube that has changed its purpose three times.Over time, these stamps become difficult to see, but it is worth looking for them.Another issue is contemporary intervention, in which wappen is replaced from a better position to a worse one.

This blue stamp is a regimental seal, which was used to mark and authenticate documents and correspondence. These seals served to prove that a document belonged to a specific regiment, thereby confirming its authenticity. At the time, it was not used in helmets.

Unfortunately some people try to pimp up helmets by using these stamps 😳

Best wishes,

There are scratches visible under the postmark, which someone tried to hide. The marks indicate that the pickelhaube helmet was originally a military helmet and was later converted into a firefighter's helmet. Check if there are any traces of a comb. All these holes can be hidden and are not a major problem. I recently restored the helmet to its original condition myself.https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/polish-school-of-renovation.21226/
