Officer pickelhaube 92Rgt Brunswick

Nick, this is interesting, if not reassuring. It echoes what Jean-Louis Larcade wrote in his famous book "Casques a pointe...". Collecting pioneers he met in the 60's and 70's would commonly swap plates to "create" a rare helmet they were missing. No intent then to deceive or rip off though...
Bruno:

That describes Andy. He was a real gentleman with no intent to deceive. In fact, he freely admitted that he was swapping parts for fun. He never sold a helmet, in spite of our attempts to buy/rescue some of them.

Hi my waterloo helmet has no RJ marks as it is a Reserve Officer what I was told is way rarer because their were less of them and this one is named, Do you like it? This might be something I might sell down the road, Let me know if your interested in it? Thanks
Yes, I sure am. If you want to let it go, let me know, I might just buy it from you. It might be a nice addition to my IR74 enlisted helmet.

Regards, Coert.

Hi Gary,
According to your documentation the marking should be L.I.R. 74 (Landwehr Infanterie Regiment 74), not R.I.R. 74 (Reserve Infanterie Regiment 74).
Regards,
Lars
Hi it the helmet is a reserve helmet?

Hi if not looking at the marks on back. What about looking at the helmet as far as looking Original? The helmet is never been cleaned and no extra holes so I dont know what to think but has a real chin strap Im pretty sure kocade look good what do you think abot just looking at the helmet and less at markings just saying, What do you think about the rest of the helmet?

Steve, my apologies for calling you by your last name. The habit of addressing my colleague Nicholas...

Which unit wore the running horse emblem during the war?
This is outside my area of expertise. According to Turinetti, IR 92 used the running horse until 1912. It doesn't sound unlikely that by 1914 not all the helmets reserved for Reserve and Landwehr units would have been updated to the new design, and Reserve and Landwehr would not have had the "Peninsula" scroll, so at first glance the Wappen could be correct for a Reserve or Landwehr unit raised by IR 92.

PS: and no scrolls on the eagle's wings, which also fits with Reserve or Landwehr

Agreed, that makes sense and I've been told landwehr units were the last units to wear this badge during the war.

Bruno:

Not a problem at all.

Nick is a contraction of my last name. So I hear that a lot as does your friend Nicholas.
