Here’s a cup I’ve had for years which has me wondering. I think this is a coffee cup given by a father (Jakob Pies) to his son Mathias?
I translate the script beneath the name “Jakob? Pies” as:
“Remembering my beloved son Mathias serving with the 2nd Company of the 2nd Upper Rhine Infantry Regiment Nr.99 garrisoned at Zabern 1911/1913”
The 1st side panel I think reads….
“On a lonely silent night I thought of my father”
The 2nd panel I think is…
“Wake up every morning, drink your coffee without worries”
Do I have this essentially correct?
It was clearly well used over the years.
