    Mecklenburg Officer JR 90

Brian: Regarding your comment about the re-stitching being easier when the visor being replaced is from the same helmet. No kidding!! I just finished stitching on the replacement visor you provided, and the holes did not align. The new visor holes were about 3/32" on centre and the helmet...

    Pickelhaube and yet not Pickelhaube

An interesting complementary piece to a "pointy hat" collection (as my wife would say). I have a few Wappens that have pin holes in them as they were at one time mounted on a display board. The Wappens came out of France I think, where it was not uncommon for them to be displayed in pubs or...

    Mecklenburg Officer JR 90

Brian: I don't envy you that re-stitching job.

    M15 Prussian with Waterloo Bandeau

Looks like a good acquisition. I suspect that the value of the Wappen and the original chinstrap alone would justify the cost of the piece.

    Paris-Dakar Rally

Wojtek: I find your restoration posts very interesting. Please keep posting them.

Saxon officer helmets with emblem attachment using split prongs

I suspect that the use of M95 OR style mounting loops on officer Wappens are also a war time innovation.

Saxon officer helmets with emblem attachment using split prongs

Split prongs are rare for a reason in my estimation. It's a poor method of attachment, particularly in a military helmet. In my experience, brass can only be bent three or four times before the brass breaks.

    Baden 22nd Dragoon Regt Schirmmutze

Nice looking piece. Every collection should have at least one.

    Filz pickelhaube

That's a nice "unplayed with" example. Good acquisition.

    Identification / Authentication Necessary

It's a real Model 1895 Prussian Line Infantry enlisted ranks helmet. Missing the chinstrap and the cockades plus the brass nut that secures the rear spine. It's in better than average condition overall.

Very cool Zeppelin lunch box or some other kind of carrying case?

James: That is a very cool piece of history. I've never seen one like it, but if I did, I'd certainly buy it if the price was reasonable.

    Universal Pickelhaube Polish

Doug: Thanks. I had the mask custom made and then painted in the Prussian Gardes theme. Amazingly, (well maybe not if you're familiar with hockey dressing rooms) no one has ever commented on the mask's design. Goalies just dress in the corner and then the players get to fire pucks at us. I'm...

    Universal Pickelhaube Polish

Phillipe: Thanks for posting those advertisements. I sort of guessed that was the case if it was being marketed in the U.S. and England. I thought the use of a pickelhaube as a trademark was interesting. :)

    Universal Pickelhaube Polish

Here's an intriguing item I picked up at a local flea market. It was going cheap so I couldn't resist adding it to the collection. Just the ticket for keeping your Pickelhaube in sparkling new condition.🧐 Well...maybe not after 125 years in the tin, although I haven't removed the lid to see...

    Two Jager zu Pferde helmets

A very nice example and one that I find interesting. It has the same colouration as the helmet that I showed in the foreground of my original post. Thanks for sharing those photos.

    Two Jager zu Pferde helmets

Peter: That doesn't look like a Junckers helmet. Out of curiosity, who was the maker?

    Two Jager zu Pferde helmets

Thanks for your interest and comments folks. Like Tony, I have been applying a very thin layer of gun oil on my metal helmets and edged weapons blades, although I've switched to mineral oil on my Japanese Nihinto/Samurai blades on the advice of some of the more advanced collectors.

    A lot of fakes... Australia

Good Lord! What a horrendous piece of fakery. ....and wouldn't you think a person offering something like this would give a moments consideration to getting rid of all the distracting junk in the background?

    Preußen Johanniter Brustkreuz

The eyelets would lead me to think this was meant to be sewn on a tunic.

    Two Jager zu Pferde helmets

Thanks James. Maybe at some point they decided to darken the colour to make them less conspicuous? Then again, an Uberzug solves that problem easily.
