Looks like a good acquisition. I suspect that the value of the Wappen and the original chinstrap alone would justify the cost of the piece.

I suspect that the use of M95 OR style mounting loops on officer Wappens are also a war time innovation.

Split prongs are rare for a reason in my estimation. It's a poor method of attachment, particularly in a military helmet. In my experience, brass can only be bent three or four times before the brass breaks.

That's a nice "unplayed with" example. Good acquisition.

It's a real Model 1895 Prussian Line Infantry enlisted ranks helmet. Missing the chinstrap and the cockades plus the brass nut that secures the rear spine. It's in better than average condition overall.

Phillipe: Thanks for posting those advertisements. I sort of guessed that was the case if it was being marketed in the U.S. and England. I thought the use of a pickelhaube as a trademark was interesting. :)

Here's an intriguing item I picked up at a local flea market. It was going cheap so I couldn't resist adding it to the collection. Just the ticket for keeping your Pickelhaube in sparkling new condition.🧐 Well...maybe not after 125 years in the tin, although I haven't removed the lid to see...

Thanks for your interest and comments folks. Like Tony, I have been applying a very thin layer of gun oil on my metal helmets and edged weapons blades, although I've switched to mineral oil on my Japanese Nihinto/Samurai blades on the advice of some of the more advanced collectors.

Good Lord! What a horrendous piece of fakery. ....and wouldn't you think a person offering something like this would give a moments consideration to getting rid of all the distracting junk in the background?

Thanks James. Maybe at some point they decided to darken the colour to make them less conspicuous? Then again, an Uberzug solves that problem easily.
