    Two Jager zu Pferde helmets

After acquiring a 2nd M15 Jager zu Pferde helmet recently I was struck by the difference in the tone of the "gun blue" finish on these two helmets. Both helmets were made by C.E. Juncker in 1916 yet the one I've had for many years has a silver/blue finish while the recent acquisition in the...

Garde Kürassier Regimental stein plus a couple more uncommon regimental steins

Three lovely steins! I see that first two are ceramic. I have never had the opportunity to purchase one of these. I suspect they are considerably rarer than the usual porcelain style. All fairly late production models when the reservist souvenir business was at its height in terms of...

My latest: J.A. Bowman. "The Pickelhaube"

Yes. I also use this a lot. It's very good for quick identification of the army's headdress as of the pre-war period.

    Movie on T V

Not to hijack the thread but speaking of props, I once had the opportunity to purchase a complete set of Roman armour from a dealer in Oshawa, Ontatrio back in the 80's. It was used in the film Ben Hur by one of the soldiers standing around the track in the Circus Maximus chariot race scene...

    Imperial Medals of JustinG

Beautiful awards! Very nicely designed and superb craftsmanship. I would love to have a PLM in my collection but, they are such a minefield in terms of sorting out real vs. fake or post war fabrication I've never been seriously tempted. Thanks for posting these.

    Prussian Zahlmeister

    Thanks for the clarification Glenn.

    Prussian Zahlmeister

Another question related to this helmet is: It has a "screw off" spike. I know that one can't conclude that because of this the owner was entitled to wear a parade bush. But, was a Beamte Doctor entitled to wear a parade bush and f so what colour and material?

    Four Kokarden

Especially when you're the only guy in the room that understands what he's looking at. The seller got them as part of an estate lot and had the same price on each of them. Oldenburg - Prussia, same price.

    Four Kokarden

Steve: I suspect that I was the only member at this show which was good for me. There were a couple of dealers hovering around but it's not too hard to out bid them when competing for items. The Ottawa show was originally stared by two collector friend and myself. It's a small show at...

Wojtek: Thanks very much for pointing me to that list provided by Glenn. It's very helpful.

    Jager zu Pferde helmet

The last purchase of yesterday’s Ottawa Militaria Show was this M15 Jager zu Pferde helmet which was also very affordable considering it was purchased in Cdn. dollars. I already have a Jager zu Pferde which is in better condition so this one will be a restoration project with the intent of...

    Prussian Zahlmeister

Wojtek: Thanks for your input. I must have thought Zahlmeister, based on the eagles' form and missing the fact that there is significance to the colour of the eagle. So, a silver eagle on brass/gilt helmet fittings is Doctor, Inspector etc. ? I wasn't aware of that. Once again, the value...

    Prussian Zahlmeister

Thanks for your comment. Well, if the rear visor thing doesn't work out, the parts can be sold easily enough.

    Four Kokarden

Coert: I'm not surprised. The 2nd from the left is the Oldenburg. It's dark enough on the front surface to almost appear black but, in hand it's a dark blue. Thanks for your input.

    Prussian Zahlmeister

Another piece I couldn’t resist buying at the Ottawa Militaria Show yesterday is this helmet which was incorrectly offered by the vendor as a Prussian Reservist helmet. Although it has a significant issue, being the lack of a rear visor and spine, the cost of the parts by far exceeded the price...

    Four Kokarden

I attended the Ottawa Militaria Show yesterday and picked up several items that I’ll be posting. First acquisition of the morning was these four Kokarden. Very reasonably priced and even better when buying four at a time. I was looking for a Bavarian OR’s to complete my Leibgarde restoration...

    Zinc Prussian Dragoon Officer

Steve: As requested. Slight damage to the white enamel on the Suum Cique motto and one section of the Wappen crown is missing. The chin scales seem to have a tombac tone to them depending on the light. I've had this one for thirty five years or more. It will be one of the last to find a...

    Zinc Prussian Dragoon Officer

Brian: Interesting story. I too, have a Gardes officer's helmet that was purchased from the estate of a doctor from Smiths Falls, Ontario (my home town). He also served in the C.E.F. and brought it home as a souvenir. I remembered "old doc Murphy" from my public school days. Of course, then...

Anatomy of Bavarian aluminum Officer helmet

James: I've never seen one of these helmets. Until now, I didn't know they existed, although given the existence of the versions made for the enlisted ranks it shouldn't be surprising. Thanks for sharing those detailed pictures.
