I am watching The Prisoner of Zenda in color .
I saw a kurassiere helmet with a G d C type eagle on top
and a strange front plate.
Interesting all of the colorful military uniforms
made up by the Hollywood prop department
I wonder where they all went
Some real uniforms were for sale out in Calif some years ago
that came from movie prop departments

The Marx Brothers Duck Soup featured Hapsburg Guard uniforms.

Much of this material was preserved with Western Costume Company in Hollywood. It was difficult to see the inventory unless you were a union professional actively engaged in a production. Then they nearly went out of business and had some major sales in the 1970's and early 1980's when one could get into the warehouse and see the material. I suspect many pieces went to collectors at that time. I purchased an original mutze in perfect condition except that it had an actor's name written into the liner. I suspect they were acquiring a lot as surplus following 1918.

The company still exists today:

Thank you for this post

Would you please post some photos of it ?
Thanks

Theaters / prop companies can be treasures or tragedies as great artifacts are destroyed for productions. On the other hand, I DID get a mint condition US pre/early WWII Infantry Tanker (doughnut dome) tanker helmet that had been in an Australian theater's prop department. Infantry Tanker.jpg

Not to hijack the thread but speaking of props,

I once had the opportunity to purchase a complete set of Roman armour from a dealer in Oshawa, Ontatrio back in the 80's. It was used in the film Ben Hur by one of the soldiers standing around the track in the Circus Maximus chariot race scene.

I passed but it would have been a conversation piece.
