Beauty piece James! Were these issued with the Rabatte or were they only issued for parade?

What sort of chin scale set is this?

I find it odd that it would have MADE IN FRANCE stamped into the brass backing plate in English?

    The Kaiser’s Prize (Kaiserschiessabzeichen)

Steve: A very interesting item given that supposedly after 1902 these additional Prize designs were phased out. Even stranger that the leaves indicating an additional date are present but the date itself doesn't seem to have ever been added. Nice item to have in your collection. Re. the...

    Current M1889 Collection

Gabe: Nice collection! Thanks for sharing them. I started down that road years ago but got diverted onto other avenues and eventually sold all but a couple of them. I particularly like the ones with a cypher on the grip. Like James, I miss them but, when you have limited means compromises...

Toasting Cup - 7th Westphalian Dragoons

I purchased this piece from a collector friend years ago. It has sat on a book shelf pretty much neglected for years. This week I took it down and gave it a polish with Maas polish. My friend had written a note explaining what it was with the intention of putting it on eBay which he never got...

    Baden Private Purchase NCO

I was thinking much the same. I figured that maybe the threaded post was missing, or the entire spike top was missing and a non-threaded top was soldered in place. Regardless, it's still a good quality item with a story to tell.

    Baden Private Purchase NCO

Brian: A very nice Private Purchase piece. I suspect that the poor quality soldering of the spike was a post war mess created by a not very experienced solderer. You can see the scratch marks where someone used pliers or something to hold the top in place as the heat was applied. The problem...

    Need help with 2 Pickelhauben

I would grab the Wurttemburg helmet. It's in good shape, and it's marked to a desirable Fusilier regiment. Wurttemburg helmets are the least common of the four Kingdoms. Missing Kokarden and chinstraps are so common that as Brian said, most collectors just accept that as being something that...

SOLD: 115th Hessian Lieb Garde Regiment Reservist Stein

What a beautiful stein to a prestigious regiment and at a fair price too! If I didn't already have a dozen steins........

My restoration of a torn Chin Scale

I also missed this post originally. Very informative and useful.

    Genuine Pickelhaube

Yes. The medals offerings on US/Canada eBay's Imperial German section is laughable, even after filtering for Original items only. 80% of it is trash and fantasy trash.

M95 Dragoner saved from the scrap

Good job. That required a lot of patience and persistence to complete.

It must be real. He has a 100% positive customer rating! :D

    The Kaiser’s Prize (Kaiserschiessabzeichen)

Thanks Jens. Another little wrinkle in the regulations that I was not aware of. Live and Learn. Steve

    The Kaiser’s Prize (Kaiserschiessabzeichen)

The top photo is interesting. The Fahnentrager is the only person wearing a Kaiserprize. If the 166th won the prize as recently as 1905 why is he wearing the prize in 1912 when as far as I know, you were only allowed to wear the prize for one year after it was awarded?

Rare Baden officer Pioneer Battalion Pickelhaub for sale

As Alan said, this helmet is a money pit, unless you are a seasoned collector with an extensive "parts drawer".

    S.M.S. Karlsruhe (1916) Tellermütze

Thanks Dane. I've been in the collecting game for a long time. This piece was acquired through one of the Ron Manion auctions years ago. BTW. The story of the guns of the Königsberg is one of those stories that Hollywood should have made into a movie if it wasn't for the fact that the wrong...
