I was thinking much the same. I figured that maybe the threaded post was missing, or the entire spike top was missing and a non-threaded top was soldered in place. Regardless, it's still a good quality item with a story to tell.

Yes. The medals offerings on US/Canada eBay's Imperial German section is laughable, even after filtering for Original items only. 80% of it is trash and fantasy trash.

The top photo is interesting. The Fahnentrager is the only person wearing a Kaiserprize. If the 166th won the prize as recently as 1905 why is he wearing the prize in 1912 when as far as I know, you were only allowed to wear the prize for one year after it was awarded?

As Alan said, this helmet is a money pit, unless you are a seasoned collector with an extensive "parts drawer".
