    Garde Infantry Officer Re Stitch

A sunny day here again so work continues: We find a vulcan fibre rear visor here and no broken spaces between the holes. :) So we have a leather shell with V fibre visors, a good thing. For you novices, the black rim here tells us that it is vulcan fibre, an early form of plastic. The reverse...

    Garde Infantry Officer Re Stitch

My last winter project, this also needs the rear visor stitched back into position. The before photos: A very nice crisp Garde Officer wappen, with no dmage to the white enamel background. Flat scales for infantry service. The same problem as the last helmet. This presents a real problem! :(...

Officer Helmet Feld. Arty 10 or 46

Finished: Completed yesterday. Now on to the next project sent by this member....a Garde Officer. I would also appreciate any comments about the chin scale fasteners. Has any member seen this type before? PS: The insect damage can not be seen with the visor back in place.

Officer Helmet Feld. Arty 10 or 46

As I suspected the rosette has a finely threaded post fastened to it which screw into the brass washer (?) shown above. I could have removed everything shown but if I do that then I have to align those threads in a small helmet shell (56 cm). There is always something new to discover in the...

Officer Helmet Feld. Arty 10 or 46

Further progress: Pinned and ready to go. As usual the imprint lines in the shellac finish are used to line up the holes. . When I first started years ago, I used to strat pining at the corners and count holes across the stitch line. Now I start from the middle, and count/pin out to the...

    Feld Arty 10/48 Officer Wappen

I am currently working on this helmet but wanted to post photos of its rare unique officer plate with 3 Napoleonic battle honours soldered to it. Both of these Artillery Regiments fought with the British against Napoleon at these 3 locations. Peninsula is a word which denotes Spain. Both Spain...

Officer Helmet Feld. Arty 10 or 46

I worked a bit on this helmet today, pinned the visor for stitching and removed the wappen to have a look. Exquisite detail to this pre 1913 officer wappen! We can see that the Battle Honours Peninsula and Gohrde are separate and carefully soldered in 2 spots on each wing. Waterloo has a space...

Officer Helmet Feld. Arty 10 or 46

Thank you for the comment Clovis and as I have worked on many of these officer helmets, I know exactly what you are talking about. This is insect damage, not something caused by melted shellac finish. The damage you describe happens along the stitch line where the shellac melts into the red...

    Adler für Jägertschako

I would not buy it….the gauge of wire used for the loops is not correct as are the loops themselves . The chemical patina on the outside surface of the eagle is also typical of fakes. It produces this antique, aged look.
