Officer 1843 kurassier nickel plate restoration

Hello need some advice on how to restore the body of this 1843 officer Kurrasier. You can see that it is/was nickel plated and it’s badly rusted through. Previous owner sanded the body but not the visors. This incongruency leads me to think that it should be polished to match and to read it of...

    KR2 officer helmet. Early model

Beautiful helmet. I have a 1842 Officer helmet that is nic-plated and compromised. Sold to me as steel but previous owner tried to remove on the bell but rusted through on the visor and tail. Any ideas on restoring the down to the steel?

    An interesting helmet to discuss

[-X The guy is posting and answering his own 'hype the item' type questions, declining big offers in one and now trying to deflect the fact it is a fake by suggesting it is a 'referb' uhg :army: :army:

    Does he REALLY think...

Well I held back but am still following up on this one. I am like you poiatowski I see some sketchy elements and I need more info to get clear on its authenticity. Thank goodness for this forum to more insight and some reservation around 'deals'. Ron do you rebuild chinscales by chance?? Chris

    Does he REALLY think...

Who does 'restorations' such as this? I have not seen metalhelm 'fixed' in such a way. Earlier(m1860) helmets might have a makers mark on the trim or not. Did the later (m1894) all have a inner crown makers mark/date? This bell does have some intriguing qualities I have not seen in repo's, I'm...

    Kurassierhelm

I'm suspect on several issues. The steel spike shape is not like any ive seen. The button on the back does not look right. The liner seems newish/odd and the sew job of the tag does not look period. As mentioned the front plate does look right for me either. A better interior pic is much needed...

    Lobstertail Metalhelme Überzug?

I actually used to own this cover. I bought it out of France. I did kinda stink and the plastic reinforcement and old elastic seemed darn hard to fake. It also had extra brass clips added-looked period. Seemed genuine but it was not an "attic find" as is claimed in the ad. That is certainly...

"Garde du Corps" Officer Parade Eagle???

Looks like a fake to me. Officer chickens are usually very detailed. My EM's seem better made and more detailed than this one. Plus the underside mounting does not look right, new or recent work>>> I say.

    Kürassier model 1867

This helmet was recently (3-4 months) sold on a "live" auction E-bay. I think it went for $950-$1100 + 22% commision. I did not bid because of the soldered on spike(may be able to be repiared or unsoldered but with no 'eyes' you would be taking a chance). I does seem that the guy only polished...

    Spikes

Do you think they are all originals?? Chris
  17. artastx

    original ?

FAKE!!!FAKE!!!FAKE!!!FAKE!!!FAKE!!!FAKE!!!This is a distressed fake! I have seen these up close and they are remakes. They are well made but the helmet body is copper and other parts that should be tombak are brass. I would consider these only as a stand in display piece. Chris
