Does he REALLY think...

that this is worth more 'restored'? To me, it looks like a repro shell (copper) with applied stamps and some hole enlargements... any thoughts?

I agree. It also has no makers mark in the crown, which I would expect to find in an EM tombac helmet...

Who does 'restorations' such as this? I have not seen metalhelm 'fixed' in such a way. Earlier(m1860) helmets might have a makers mark on the trim or not. Did the later (m1894) all have a inner crown makers mark/date? This bell does have some intriguing qualities I have not seen in repo's, I'm checking it out. I'm tempted because I have the parts to complete this helmet. He does offer a 7 day inspection and return policy.

I guess the only way to know is to actually look at it, however, there are some things that I don't like and the main one is the color of the helmet, which looks like pure copper, rather than tombak to me. Also, I do a lot of metal work and it's very easy to add stamps, enlarge holes and replicate the look (especially along the usual straight sides of the lobster tail in repros) to take off the trim and fix that.
To me, it looks fake, but I'd be interested in finding out if it is or not and if not, how great when you've gotten the body to put with the parts you have. The 6th Kurassiers is one of my favorite helmets.
To me, he'd have been better off to sell it unrestored... if it's original.

Well I held back but am still following up on this one. I am like you poiatowski I see some sketchy elements and I need more info to get clear on its authenticity. Thank goodness for this forum to more insight and some reservation around 'deals'. Ron do you rebuild chinscales by chance??

I've made replacements for my helmets, but no, I don't do that. Try posting a topic question under Pick' discussion, I'm sure somebody can help.
