10th Jager battalion plate

Would be happy to have this book in my library, but very sadly why I can't free read in english. Unfortunately in russian 1ww especially german empire no one historical literature. Need to learn english. 8)

When I visited St. Petersburg this summer the director rolled out the red carpet for me to visit the brand-new Russian World War I Museum. Lots of nice stuff but all the guide who was pushing my wheelchair wanted to see was guns. Guns guns and more guns. There was a lot of really nice artifacts to see!

Look here 100% copy with nice bandeau

I'm no professional at identifying original wappen, but I'd say the back detail on this one is certainly lacking, but that bandeau looks better, even though it's a reproduction. I thought the little 'holes' in the ends of the bandeau on the original plate you posted were interesting. (on the left, looking at the back) I wonder what they were for?

I was thinking about it too. Maybe in first it was for to fix these at the posts. Actually if to put these holes together the bandeau should get a circle. :-k :-k :-k

I thought about that too, but wouldn't that obscure the text? hmmm... going to have to check that out.

It depends what was previously - holes on the helmet, or posts on the plate. In this situation should be that helmet holes was primary.

As it appeared The plate have "gilt wash" and bandeau is perfectly stamped. So I think the plate is original and wasn't used.

For me this plate is a reproduction. Here are the reasons why I think so:

- not enough detail at the back
- not enough detail at the front
- strange threaded posts
- sloppy text on bandeau, not well centered
- sloppy text on bandeau, distance between letters is different
- an officer's helmet plate without mercury guilding?
- the circular bandeau isn't really a circle (as it should be)

Taking all these points together makes it hard to believe that this plate would be a real one...
Oh, and here's a picture to compare...

One more plate with same symptoms.
