A Fähnrich or Fahnenjuncker helmet from the Garde : Before and after.

Thank GOD that hasn't been my experience. If every helmet needed to be cleaned every three months I would lose my mind.
....
When I was still living at home as a youngster, my father had this special week end every now and then (when ever he felt it to be the right moment...) to clean up all the cupper and silverware in the house.
It was a sort of tradition, something his father did as well...
Problem is; I had to participate and bring down my helmets who had cupper wear on them of where made of cupper, or any other metal that could be polished...

I just wanted to add that the helmets I polished stayed sparkling for about a year. After that, a beautiful patina returned, but without the dirt I had on them the day I acquired them. I'll take some photos when I get a chance.

This is what it looks like three years after cleaning. It all depends on the amount of gold on the item. The higher the purity of the gold, the longer it ages.

I do not want to look askance at anyone on how to clean a pickelhouabe or leave it as it is, with a beautiful patina, but I like to keep it in between, so clean up a bit what you can, and certainly do not remove the ghost under the plate, but it is a beautiful helmet as you have obtained it, I clean copper with lemon fruit and salt, it is clean and still has some of its patina from the years, beautiful helmet
