We had the great pleasure last weekend of visiting Steve McFarland's home and collection, a virtual temple to the Imperial German Army. A few completely inadequate pictures follow that barely scratch the surface of this extraordinary collection. And Steve himself is a gracious, engaging host with an incredible breadth of knowledge and an apparently bottomless well of stories! We were lucky to have Mike Heuer visit at the same time and add to the excellent conversation (and invaluable help with local navigation). A great day.
The man himself - deep in his element and mid-story!

Here you can catch of glimpse of the lovely and talented Mike Heuer engrossed in one of the many treasures that seemed to be everywhere...

What's an Imperial German collection without a pile of the Kaiser's shoulder boards...and his 1LKR1 hat?

At first I was looking for the "mind-bogglingly rare" section...until I realized that was everywhere.

What dreams are made of...

I regret not getting a group selfie this time - but at least my limited photo skills caught my reflection in this astonishing Grenadier display (my favorite uniforms of the collection). Already planning a return trip...
